I am looking for a song from the 1980's. It's a disco number that has the sound of the Big Ben in the intro. Yesterday my younger brother mailed me and it appeared he was looking for the same song! Isn't that a coincidence? I don't know anymore about this number, it was just that I loved dancing on it in the 1980's. My brother thought it might be a Marcia Hines song, but I myself don't have a clue at all. I'm more into classical music, never paid much attention to the titles and artists of the songs I liked to dance on. So, is there anyone who can help us out?

We wonder.........

Why he was asking you!!! ;)

love and laughter!

Was there a vocal? One of my favourite instrumentals of the era is Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven." A good booty-mover.

Big Ben Trivia

The bell was cast by the oldest bell foundry in England (and the oldest manufacturing company as well), Whitechapel Bell Foundry. Big Ben is the largest bell ever cast at the foundry, way back in 1858. The same foundry originally cast the bell in Philadelphia now known as the Liberty Bell. Both bells developed a crack; the British simply turned the bell so that the crack would be facing away from the hammer strike, and fitted a smaller hammer.

The Americans tried a number of repairs on their older and much smaller bell (one ton vs 13 tons), including recasting the bell using the original metal soon after its arrival. It was rung regularly but developed another major crack. The large crack in it was enlarged by hand filing to prevent the separate pieces from rubbing and making a bad sound, and secured with rivets, but the last time the Liberty Bell was rung was soon after those repairs on Washington's birthday in 1846.

There is no data on the effect of disco on the either bell ;-).

Nina Hagen? Of course! She's got lots of company in the "where are they now?" corner of disco/new wave history.

"High Energy"

Evelyn Thomas was live at an after hours club in Baltimore(Cignal)during her hit song, "High Energy"'s climax.I was there with my friend,Sean and she pulled him and me up on stage with her.We were both high on peyote and pot but not too high to not enjoy being a part of her rutine. At the time,High Energy was my favorite song and as she sang and we danced with her,she and I faced each other nose to nose! She was so surprised I knew all the words and loved my dance steps and the twirling I was well known for. After the performance, she had two huge, berlie type black men pull me and Sean off the dance floor(we thought we were being arrested for posession of maryjuanna)and they took us upstairs to join Evelyn and her crue in a huge party they were haveing! We partied to the early morning and Sean went home but I stayed and was escorted home in their limo!!She gave me the album and signed it as well as kissing it leaving her golden lipstick on its cover! She was so nice and told me how much fun she had with me already knowing the words to the song.I shared my stash with them as we talked about how much fun it was being picked out of the bunch to perform with her.She asked me how I could twirl so much and I said it came from my fascinatition in watching washing machines.I told her that if she watched, she'd see me agitate for a while, then spin.As they showed the video, she watched and noticed I was right! She laughed so hard, she cried.I miss those days when Disco ruled and I could go out and get lost in the music.I only wish there were more clubs around that played those songs and I could dance forever."High Energy!!Your love is lifting me! Lifting me hiiiiiiiiiiiiierrrrrrrrr,Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!

Divine . . .

While thinking of big disco stars let's remember Divine as well. Who could forget the lines in Shoot Your Shot: "Shoot your shot, give it all you've got, and baby I know you've really got a lot!" All of this delivered with that famous Divine wiggle too.

Rich

Interesting that you found the song easily with those words. I did the same search but not with the same result. I get a lot of Dutch pages, one of the reason I didn't get the song was a Dutch bar that is called Big Ben! Apparently Google gives different results in different countries. Thanks again, my brother and I are happy!

uff... Paul Jabara... You could recogize his work on the first beat!

The only song with a "big ben bell" sound I know of is Hell's Bells by AC/DC...

Speaking of disco, but from the 80's, is a song I have been searching for called "Zizi Don't Dance" or something like that. I have tried all combinations of spellings and words and always come up empty. Someone told me it was on the soundtrack of Thank God It's Friday, but I cannot locate it...

Hey PeterH770

I know and have the song "Zie Zie Won't Dance" by Peter Brown - came out in 1985 on Columbia Records. I have the 12" version. You remember Peter Brown - "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me", "Dance With Me", "They Only Come Out At Night", "You Should Do It", "Baby Gets High", "Crank It Up (Funk Town)" were the big hits on the dance floors and radios across the U.S. Hope this helps. Just looked on Amazon, and sadly didn't see "Zie Zie Won't Dance" available.

Hope this helps!

Mike

I dimly remember a disco song of the 70's that had the line, "Ring, ring, ring that bell..." but that's about it.

Louis, I did see some dutch links when I search but maybe not as many as you did. I'll do another google search and post the link for you... maybe you'll see what I saw?

Here's the link. The Marsha Raven link is about 10 links down. I think I clicked on it, didn't see enough, then did another Google search on Marsha Raven, and found the youtube video with the bell ringing.

Interesting! My results are totally different. Even the number of results per page is different. I had another look at my results and noticed Marsha Raven is on top of page 9. I must have overlooked that one or perhaps it just didn't ring a bell. LOL

Here's the link to my google search.
