My parents have an 80s Hotpoint 30" Electric Self Clean range. It's light almond and black with a black glass door. I think it's a pretty nice stove, funny to think they were going to replace it with a modern smooth top a while ago. I was wondering if it's a good stove.

Interestingly, I decoded the serial # and came up with a 1985 date. There was a matching color GE hood over it with a date of 1987. The house also came with a smallish Hotpoint top freezer fridge with recessed side handles, looked like the Americana ones at Home Depot. Also there was a GE washer, I don't recall it having the filter flo tray, but maybe it did. The tub rusted out on it and the fridge was replaced as it was too small for my parents.

Anyway, any thoughts on 80s and 90s GE or Hotpoint ranges and quality?

By that time Hotpoint was the same as GE, with different trim. Internally they were the same, and made in GE's Louisville plant (Appliance Park). The change from Hotpoint being made in their own facility in Chicago (Taylor St. complex) began in the 70's.

Here the Hotpoint. I really like how the control panel has a white and blue line at the bottom. It needs a little work, one of the 8" burner controllers has failed and burner only works on high. Also need new knobs for the timers and half of the spindle for the clock knob is missing. Not sure how to set the clock, I will check the manual.

You may notice the blemish on the right side of the panel. My guess is the previous owner-builder may have gotten it as scratch and dent. This is not the first stove that was in this house, as the house is ten years older than the stove. There was a white Tappan hood in the shed when my parents bought the house, so that could be a clue, or maybe not.
