1983 Maytag washer and dryer set

There is a well Maytag Washer and Dryer set 1983.I was wondering what folks in here thinks about these machines?

My Aunt has a 1970 or 60s Maytag Washer still working it has a center dial and that is it.

I don't know much at about Maytag washer's at all.I thought I read somewhere that Norge started making them

for Maytag.I do know about Norge that is what I grew up with a 1972/3 Norge 20Lbs Washer and Dryer set I remember that

lint filter that would go over the agitator and that sound it made every time it would shoot water out.Mom complaned  that it was

to rough on clothes and I recall watching that thing going back and forth there was no slow down went it stopped it went the other

way and with that huge straight vain agitator it had no problems with moving clothes.It lasted till we gave it away to some folks at

church.I want a 1-18 Jet-cone or a Kelvinator splasher and will get me one even if I have to drive 500 miles to get it but need a washer till I find one.Here is a Pic

1980's MT set

A very rugged and dependable machine.  While you won't get the splashy fun of the other 2 machines mentioned this will be much quieter and give you less trouble.   The downside is that very large loads won't roll over as well and the Power Fin agitator has been known to be rough on some fabrics.  Over all it is a good solid machine that should work well for years if taken care of.

Pix is rather dark, but they look just like mine, 30 years old and running like new. Cant tell which model but the same style. Pretty much the last of the real Maytags.

That's a nice set.  I you decide to go for them, you'll probably have them for a lot longer than you ever thought you would.

Honestly, these don't look like 1983 machines to me.  What is serial number on them?  The "10" series machines manufactured from 1980-1984 had ivory colored plastic buttons for water level and temperature selection.  In 1985 when the "12" series machines made their debut THEY had dark brown buttons.  From the picture, these look like 1985 or later "12" series machines. 

 

The last of the REAL MAYTAGS came off the assembly line in Newton, IA on Dec. 21, 2006.  You had to know what to look for, but REAL Maytag washers were available until early 2007.

Picture lightened somewhat.  The washer kinda looks like my sister's LA512 which dates to April 1984 per the S/N.  A 1-speed Fabric-Matic model with variable water level & 3 temp combos ... if that's what is it.

I have no idea what the serial  number is on these.They also just had one pic of them also but there about 10 mins from me and while

I did not like our mid 80s Maytag Reverse rack Jet-Clean dishwasher that machine could clean very very well and it did last

for a long time.I have no idea what the agitator on these look like.Please tell me it is not a Dual-action cork screw type.

I don't know why those are so popular but they are.In 1996 I bought a new washer and dryer and I went with a Hotpoint

that had a spiral-ramp agitator and a strange lint filter surrounded the tub at the top.That turned out to be a great washer

and I loved the way it would suck and roll-over the clothes it washed better than the more $$$ washer that was at my parents house

with that dual-action thing.

This looks to be a mid-80s machine which would have still had the long-stroke helical transmission and the turquoise Power-Fin Agitator .  The short-stroke orbital transmission didn't come along until 1989.

We had one of these

Manufactured in 1990 with the short stroke transmission. Same coloring on the control panel. It had infinite water level, three temps and a one speed motor (fabric matic)

1983 Maytag washer and dryer set

My mom had that same white 83 washer and then an 84 dryer (almond rather than white) - I ended up with both 10 yrs later and they lasted me about 12-15 years. The seal went out in the washer and the element in the dryer - sadly I replaced them and regret not just repairing them instead
