1986 Kenmore limited edition electronic dryer HELP

My dryer stopped working. So it's been doing this for years but i've always managed to get it running.... except this weekend. The problem is when I go to push the cycle button it powers up but when I let go of button it dies out. The power button won't hold!. I think it's the computer, or what i think you all call the PCB board.... im afraid nobody can help me because the part may be too old. I love my dryer and don't want to get rid of it. Can someone here give me some insight please

did you check the termic fuse inside your dryer maybe its fryed and thats what prevents your dryer from starting up in other word this part?

Non Starting 1980s WP Built Electronic Dryer

You probably have a bad main control board, possibly a bad relay or relay board. A model # would be helpful whenever you are asking questions about any appliance.

 

It is not a bad TF as mentioned in reply #1, Your dryer does not even have this part, LOL

My 1986 set (In Storage)

Had the PCB board go bad on the dryer, according to the guy I bought it from. If you can find a replacement board it should work fine.

Thank you for your insights . I got it to turn on again, but it keeps on doing it on and off. I think I got a model #. Can someone tell me what I might need? Would a repair person be able to change the pcb board?

The microcomputer is part number 61905. The touch module is part number 772559. Both parts are no longer available but there are a couple of used touch modules on eBay and also a service for refurbishing the microcomputer. Someone here may also have a new old stock part or more insight. The parts are not difficult to replace just a little harder to come by. I hope you are able to get it fixed.

check your house wiring

I had the EXACT same symptoms with a 1991 model dryer. These dryers are very sensitive to voltage sags. If your house wiring connections aren't tight the dryer will misbehave as you describe. In my case the fault was at the service panel. The wires connected to the 50amp breaker had worked loose. There was enough current for the dryer to select a cycle. But pushing start would cause the whole display to go out. I had to replace the breaker as the thing had heated up so much that it melted the terminals.

Please note that working inside the house service panel is a job for the experienced. At a minimum the main breaker should be switched off so the connections to the dryer breaker can be checked for tightness. Check for any signs of melted insulation. Also physically inspect the wires connected to the dryer electrical outlet and the terminals on the dryer itself.
