1988 WP DW flatware basket

Been using my "new" '88 WP electronic DW for a few days now and definately notice that there are more flatware "rejects" than there were with the old '78 KM machine. I wonder if that's the result that CU got back in '88 and that's why they didn't think muchof the "flatware in door" idea. I know one of the things that bugs me a little is that the basket can't sit upright on the counter, but since the front of the basket opens, it's a minor complaint. Otherwise, it seems to do a fine job of cleaning.

A couple of guys here have WP dishwashers. My best suggestion is to ONLY put plates of all kinds in the front of the bottom rack rather than the usual rear portion of the rack. This way water is not blocked from effectively reaching the door basket as when there are pots, pans, and bowls and such. Also, what cycle & options are you using?

Those machines clean beautifully don't they? Appnut is correct about loading. I only put plates up front and bigger things like cutting boards and bigger pots in the back or along the sides.
Even though my Wp has a "power clean module" It is starting to slip a little in cleaning coffee cups and tea stains.I still have stains at the end of a load. I always use the hi-temp wash option,so i don't think it is water temp.
I usually use normal wash for an average load.My detergent is good,so i don't think it is that either.
Do the filters need to be disassembled after the machines start getting age on them? These questions are for anyone who would know what the problem might be.I don't want to part with an otherwise excellent machine. Thanks

We used to have a WP dishwasher that was purchased in 1990. We had the same problem with "stuff" getting baked onto the flatware. And it really didnt matter which cycle was being used. It would occur if you used Pots & Pans or Normal Wash. They only way we were able to overcome the problem was just rinse off the flatware before loading. I used to swear that the dishwasher would blow particles off the dishes and onto the silverware. But who knows?
