Hey Guys!

Been a while since I've posted here. I need some help! I have the above mentioned washer which is 33 years old. I have not used it on a daily basis like most people. I pretty much use it once a week and will do two loads at most, even though I can actually go for about two weeks without having to do laundry since I have so many clothes. I have actually been doing laundry once every two weeks. I have never over loaded this machine and have never used more than the recommended amount of detergent. This machine is in EXCELLENT condition with no scratches or dents and looks brand new and is kept spotless.

The other day I noticed when looking directly at the machine, the front left corner had some "liquid" on the floor. I quickly wiped it with a paper towel and noticed it was a light brownish/yellow. It seemed semi oily but when I rinsed my finger under the water, it washed off pretty easily. In other words, the water didn't repel.

Can any of you tell me what this is? It has no real odor, and is really not greasy or oily. I hope my machine is not going to shit the bed. I don't like any of the new machines I see today and from what I hear, they all are a nightmare!

Hey Louvac, I think the first thing to do is tilt the machine back and see if that brown liquid is actually coming from the left front corner or is there a bunch more of it under the machine and where is it dripping from. Has it happened more than once after you wiped it up?

Possible leak 1992 Whirlpool Direct Dr. top load washer

First thing is to definitely look underneath the machine and find out where the leak is coming from, just because you see it in the left front corner. It might actually be leaking in the right rear corner, but because of the slope of the floor, it may not be much of a clue.

The good news is parts are still pretty readily available for this machine so if there is something wrong with it, it might be fairly easily fixed.

Since you work on smaller appliances, working on a washing machine is not difficult. It’s actually quite easy. There’s all kinds of help online to fix various problems as well as lots of help here if you can identify where the problem is coming from, keep an eye on it keep using it. I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage.

Quite honestly...

Quite honestly, guys, I am somewhat intimidated trying to fix it alone. I have never done it before. Do you really think it is a transmission issue? I am being told by a local guy here that it's not worth it and that parts are no longer available. I am sure some of this is rooted in the attitude that he can't be bothered or doesn't want to be bothered. I am going to look for another service guy in the meantime. Where would I get the "parts' and what "parts" would they be?
