I just purchased a 1996 Maytag Dependable Care Model LAT8415AAE for $50, this thing is like brand new and cleans better than any washer I have owned. My question is, how do I make this thing last forever. What parts if any should I stock up on. I am comfortable doing my own maintenance/repair.

That machine should last a good long time. Lubricate the motor slides, maybe a set of belts, good to go!

I would not stock ANY parts for this machine unless you have money and extra space to burn.
Most common problems with this machine are,
Main drive belt, the pump will likley outlast the washer
Inlet valve
Bleach dispenser hose [ if your washer has one ]
Timer
Main seal and top transmission bearing assembly
Transmission
Further down the list of problems are
Loose damper pads [ which usually ruins the aluminum damper dome if not caught in time ]
rusted outer tub
The only thing I would do to this washer if it is working properly is make sure it is clean and properly leveled and all leveling feet lock nuts are tight. The only maintenance I would do at this point is lubricate the damper pads and the motor slides.
But for any of the common repairs listed above you will be able to get the parts for a long time with the possable exception of the outer tub, timer and the damper which may already be NLA.

Thank You. I appreciate the information very much. This washer replaced a fancy, expensive Samsung front loader that I hated. I actually gave it to a local shelter. It worked the same as when I bought it a year ago, I just hated it.
My grandmother had a machine very similar to this. Needless to say I was fascinated by it. She always put in a little too much detergent (she also put it in first with the water before the clothes) and it made quite a suds cake with those angel wing fins on the barrel of the agitator. Absolutely love the sound these make while washing.
