1999 Frigidaire Gas dryer

Hi all, I"m fixing a friends's dryer, limited visits during Covid, so I haven't stayed around for an entire cycle. Gas starts and heats for quite a few minutes, it seems as though once it kicks off for 1st achieving temp, it never heats again. I took off the front and cleaned tons from the lint screen at the bottom of the door all the way to the blower, very full of lint. Darn clean everywhere else for 21 years old, and he already cleaned the vent and we checked the very strong stream coming outside the house.. So I suspect the one and only thermo.
Dryer is FDG336RES1, the thermo on the blower housing is one of Frigidaire's infamous multi wire #131534900, supposedly NLA after just 21 years? I think 5 wires? is there a substitute? The dial claims Hi Med Low heat, frankly he'd be happy with a SAFE high-heat only, I don't know what thermo to suggest. Is this a safety limit and 3 temp cycling thermo all in one?

upon further review

I've searched all the diagrams, there's also a high limit thermo mounted behind the drum's back. Is this the guilty party?

Also, he'll end up running the dryer for 3 hours without heat to dry the clothes. 3 days later, it will heat again for one warming 5 minutes, then cut out for hours. Now I'm thinking safety thermo mounted behind the drum's rear perforated back.

Change the coils on the has valve, easy fix!

Thanks eronie, but can I ask why you think it's the gas valves instead of either thermostat? I ask to learn--

If it was the thermostats, either the high limit or the operating it wouldn't heat up at all.
What happens is the coils heat up because one of them is shorted.
After they heat up the coil opens and valve will not pass gas,no fire.
After a few hours they cool off and will work again for a bit.
Easy and cheep fix around 15$ just replace them both.

Non Heating Gas Dryer

Good advice Tony, bad valve coils are probably the most common reason modern gas dryer quit heating properly, we buy about 50 valve coil sets at a time when I reorder parts.

I never had gas valve coils go bad but I’ve had dealt with weak high limit thermostats before and the dryer will still work but will cycle off the heat sooner than it should causing long drying times and had that problem with my Kenmore portable dryer 3 years ago.
