2 Stage Snow Blower

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

We had a very large 2 stage machine, 12hp 30" some width, power steering, the whole deal.. It was great when we lived out in the country and had a big big long driveway but turned out to be too big here in town. So I gave it to my sister out in the country and on the recommendation of the Toro dealer here in town I bought their smallest single stage model called the Powerlite. The one I got has a two stroke engine but now they're all 4 stroke engines. I was very hesitant at first because we still have a fairly big double width driveway and this thing is only about 18" wide, 12 inches high and so lightweight you can pick it up and hang it on the wall.
Honest to god Larry, it's absolutely amazing. I can finish the driveway in record time. The neighbors have tried it as well and think it's alot better than their 2 stage machines as well.
It can take a little longer on that awful end of driveway snow but not if you get at it right away.
I highly recommend it
Here's a youtube somebody made.. basically the same model I have.

Honda Harmony

I LOVE my Honda, goes through anything Mother Nature has seen fit to give us. Its a 4 stroke so no mixing oil and gas, cleans right down to the pavement. Its about 5 years old and has never had any service

Larry,

I use a 1968 Ariens 2 stage snowblower that my wife and I received as a wedding gift from my Grandma Baumann when we were married 11/98. My grandfather had a new motor put on the blower about 1984 changing it from a 5hp to an 8hp machine w/ electric start as well.

My younger sister inherited my in-laws early 70's 5hp Hahn Snow Giant 2 stage w/ electric start. She has a corner lot, therefore lots of sidewalk to clear. Her driveway is fairly short though. She loves her machine, and doesn't want anything else.

Being that both of our machines are "vintage" they're very heavy and solidly built.

My parents have an 8hp 2001 Ariens which has a plastic chute, and is about 1/2 the weight of either my sister's or mine.

All of our machines have been and continue to be excellent performers with simple maintenance. [this post was last edited: 10/29/2010-10:48]

I have a Honda 24" 7 HP track model with electric start (battery), electric chute and hydrostatic transmission. I would have preferred a wider model but this was the only one available at the time. I have a very steep driveway which is why I wanted a track model. When I purchased it a few years ago, Honda was the only one that made a track model. Now I think there are other companies making them. The hydrostatic transmission is great as is the electric chute.

We're using a snow sleigh shovel which we got from Canadian Tire. It's Garant brand (True Temper's Quebec operation) and works well. We share a driveway with our neighbors (sort of)...from the house to the street it's shared, between the houses it's shared but from the house to the garage it's separated with the fence behind. It's really not terribly practical to use a snow blower, so we got one like this. There is a company up in the UP of Michigan that makes them from metal, but it was easier just to head over to Windsor than search one down.

This reminds me that it's time to change oil....

....in my Ariens 8.5 HP snowblower. I think it's 7 years old now. Never had a problem with it; just change the oil yearly. However, last winter, we had very little snow, so I only used the snowblower once. Snowblower does a great job, even on plowed-in driveway at the curb. Only problem I have is lack of space into which I can blow the snow.

I've also noticed that when Craigslist users ask for used snowblowers, usually are requesting Ariens.

Fred, that snow blower attachment really catches my eyes.

I do have a Yard Machine riding mower made by MTD and have the snow plow attachment, but the instructions are so bad that I never mount it!
2 Years sitting in the garage......

Three the charm you know!

I like to use my (clears throat).....

... 440 HP, 454 Chevy V8 powered blower! It weighs 800 lbs, has hydraulically powered drive wheels, heated grip handles and can easily throw the show 100 feet!

Now THIS is what I call a SNOW BLOWER! Yee Haw!

That monster looks like it could eat it's way through just about anything in it's path without any hesitation whatsoever.

It's OCTOBER

My snowblower repairman told me "Don't EVER bring your snowblower in here after October and expect it to get repaired! "
And so I started my TORO snowblower the other day and it worked.
I do not repair gasoline engines. I bought a TORO thinking that it was reliable.
In spite of my emptying the unit every season exactly as instructed, the carburetor has needed repairs multiple times.

Snow Blower

What is this thing called "snow" and how does this "snow blower" device function.......

I'd like to think I would have something along the lines of what Kevin posted. I hope some cutting edge ear protection is included with the purchase, lol.

Boy oh boy am I ready!
I did get the Sears unit and had the time of my life dragging it home on the back of my Subaru Forester via trailer.
That was fun but let me tell all of you that pissed me off!
I've ordered the unit online and made the pickup in Nanuet, NY instead of Middletown, NY..
Those sales clerks were so rude that got my blood boiling.
If you are working on commission, Do Not Tell the buyer you should have brought it through the store for we do not make anything extra when you buy online.
That's strike one!

The called my house and told me the same thing by another sales clerk. Just bring in your receipt and we will take care of it for you.
Strike two!

I went to Sears in Middletown and cancel the order and did you know the those great fools lock the contract so I would not be able to cancel unless the Nanuet store was called to do so?
Strike three!

My friend in Middletown cancel the order and reorder the unit without saying the C word. I thank him and got a additional 5% off the price. So guess who made the commission on that unit?!

All I can say that I'm happy that I went back to Middletown, for Nanuet left a bad taste in my mouth that I will not go back there ever again!

After all that grief

Let us pray that you get mountains and mountains and mountains of snow on your driveway this winter AND that the snowplow does many extra trips down your street right after you get back in the house.
