I expect to see that in a dryer but not a washer. That's actually impressive collection, lol. I assume this is a front loader, those would have a difficult time finding their way into the outer tub of a top loader.

Yes, front loader. It's remarkable how much damage was done to some pennies while others were in good shape and very clean.

Lots of coins found in a front load washer drain trap.

This is a fairly common occurrence. We see this every week. Some brands are better designed to resist coins getting into the outer tub and into the pump trap.

On my newer, Speed Queen front load machine any coins just tend to get in the front boot where they’re easy to remove for example.

The pennies really aren’t being torn up by the washing machine. They just corrode easily that’s why they look damaged, funny story, obviously being in the repair business I find lots of change in the old machines that were recycling or repairing and every year I take a big box of change to my credit union where they have a free counting machine, and I turn it in.

There’s always quite a few rejects some that are too badly corroded and of course there’s a lot of foreign coins that get in with them because we’re in a city where a lot of people travel abroad.

One of the ladies that work at the credit union saw me counting all the money one time and she commented she said you should take better care of your money. You’re letting it get wet, etc. because there were so many discolored coins, I had to laugh at that.

Is this 2003 Frigidaire front load washer still running well? There aren’t many left that old they usually suffered from spider or bearing failure in this time.

FWT647 was running well until it quit draining the tub. It doesn't get a workout like a washer in a house full of kids does. The pump runs when I jumper power to it although the vanes are so short, I wonder how it produces enough pressure to pump uphill. I guess they wanted lots of clearance to prevent jamming on foreign objects. Anyway, it's in the garage and I need to hook it up there to check if power is coming through the wire harness. I moved my mother's 1983 Maytag into the house and it's doing cleaning duties now. On closer examination, the pump vanes are short because they broke off. I get to buy a new pump instead of spending time troubleshooting a harness. Looking at the coins, I figured out that the copper cents survived in good shape but the copper clad zinc seem to have corroded from the inside.

I mentioned some years ago the array of "stuff" I found in the pump trap and tub outlet hose of a WP Duet that I refurbed. A few coins, tampon applicator, camera memory card, pellets, bobby pins, screws, nails, candy wrappers. The hose, surprisingly, wasn't punctured.
