Ummm... Should we be concerned that Mom appears to be ironing NOTHING in the ad? And is she afraid of being mugged? Why does she need her purse?

Malcolm, I was wondering about her also--but it was just the purse that peaked my attention. Seemed like Sophia Petrillo was always carring that damned purse around everywhere she went, so that may have included ironing when she was raising Dorothy!! Could be she's so OCD that she has to make sure the ironing board cover is ironed as the last ting before she finishes her ironing that day.

I think she's tripping out on the '60s diet pills/experimental anti-depressants she keeps in her purse, and is contemplating the joy of actually feeling something by ironing her hand.

Also notice that her daughter is trying to persuade an inanimate object to drink a glass of water.

There's some serious damage going on in this ad, kids.

Better yet, they're the prize behind Door #3 on Let's Make A Deal.

"It's a fabulous new wife, a daughter, and a money-saving Westinghouse front-loading washer/dryer pair!"

"Yes, it's the perfect answer for the man who is tired of his own family, and wants his clothes cleaned using half the detergent and bleach of a conventional washer!"

ah yessssss the 60s and moms and there little pills.. my mom called them her nerve pills. and you knew you were in trouble if she said "you made me have to take a nerve pill".
