What was that weird buzzing noise? It stopped before I could find it. Awhile later it started again and turned out to be the Speed Queen washer. Full of water on the spin cycle. Spun the dial around and it will agitate. No drain/spin on any cycle just a loud transformer like buzz noise.
After reading around here I took the front cover off to see if it was a locked up drain pump. I can turn the motor in both directions and the tub starts to turn in one direction. So the motor is only running in one direction and buzzing for the drain/spin direction although it turns freely by hand in both directions.
The oil all over everything from the transmission is concerning. This one has, the first year of, the 15 year parts warranty on the transmission. Washer Model AWN432SP111TW01 There are drips of oil on the floor under the washer.
I called a local SQ service center and they suggested it would be around $500 in labor to swap the transmission out. And it may need other things like seals, bearings, and the oil coated brake replaced.
I called SQ and they would be happy to send a transmission out, were not sure what all other parts it may come with or be covered like the brakes. Because it had warranty left on it SQ did not want to offer a discount on a new SQ washer.
I hate to throw money at fixing the spin cycle problem only and then wonder: when the oil coated brakes will fail or when the transmission will run out of oil and lock up.
So how bad is it? Are other parts like the brake covered from being oiled up from a transmission failure?
Given I can't replace the transmission myself: is this extensive of a repair going to be cost effective vs. a new washer?
