3 generations of Hoovermatics to restore

Now I've got my Hotpoint top loader up and running I'm turning my attention to my 3 generations of Hoovermatic twin tubs - a 3314L, a T5024 and a T5090 - which all need some TLC. If anyone has some service information for any of them or instruction books for the T5024 and T5090 then I'd love to hear from you.

In the meantime here are some photos. First up is the 3314L which I rescued from being turned into a bio-diesel reactor of all things. The rust is mainly superficial but I'm not sure what the best way is to sort this out as a DIY respray would not look good so any advice from members is welcome

Bits

The machine was in bits when I picked it up but everything was there except the spin can, castors and fill hose. As luck would have it I had a spare spin can from when I picked up the T5090 as the seller had a whole load of spare parts from previous Hoovermatics that they had owned - spin can next to machine. I managed to track down one of the last fill hoses too

Works

I had reassembled and it all works including the timer but there are a few squeaks from the spinner so need to grease the bearings I guess. I'm also missing 2 of inner plastic bits of the clips that attach the spin deck to the machine so if anyone knows where I could get these....

T5024

Here is the T5024. Its in great condition apart from a bad scratch on the front which has rusted. The only thing missing is the handle on the wash tub lid. Would be great to get hold of one of these.

Pulsator

The hose between the water inlet and spout has perished but is easy to sort out. The only other issue with this seems to be the pulsator is quite noisy and if you turn it by hand it seems to catch the tub so not sure if this is the bearing. Anyway, last post for now.

Beautiful machines!!!

Sure hope you get them all cleaned up and running smoothly.
I loooooove the accent colours on the T5024-especially the orange rinse/fill spout.
But myself, I just recently acquired the Canadian version of your 3314-in Mustard Yellow. And I am loving the colour more everyday.
I also like this styling of the Hoovers the most, with the handles in the front corners of the lids.

Mine however, has a leaky spin tub seal, so that's gotta be fixed up.
Can't wait to get it all fixed and running myself.

Me too

I think the orange trim was about as colourful as these got here! None of the yellow or turquoise ones to my knowledge although I think there was a hotpoint twin tub with a wood grain finish!
Your's looks great and hope you manage to get the leak sorted out. Hopefully it is something easy.
I'll do an update once I get them sorted out and some videos too.

Hoovermatics

Hi Stephen, congratulations on your Hoovermatics, washdays fun to use machines, plenty of spares still about although not quite as many about as per years ago!!

The fill tube pipe on the 5024 was problematic and only lasted in that setup (corner fill) for one series run...also those orange interlocks are a complete pain to get to and repair IMHO..

Will scan some pages of service info and post on here I`m sure someone can do the same with the manuals etc...

I'm sure the info will help. I had a 5024 years ago before I left home and took it with me to my student digs! It was great to use but the spout on the spin dryer always used to move back to its rest position and you would end up with water coming up from under the lid. Apparently it blew up one day when I wasn't there and my housemates threw it down steps outside the house. So glad to have another one to play with although living in a town house has its issues with taking the machines down to the kitchen!!

Your 5054 is in great condition and not too dissimilar to the 5090. I think the metal lids were far more superior than the plastic ones! Fingers crossed, the interlock seems ok on mine although you do have to mush the lid down quite firmly for it to engage. Overall, I don't think this machine has seen much use as the back panel is totally rust free which is unsual for these given the amount of splashing!!

T5024 spin interlock

My gran had a T5024, and it seemed to be okay with her, but when my mum inherited the machine, the interlock played up.

Lifting the latch once was supposed to stop the spin. Lifting it twice opened the lid - and it did - but latterly something stuck, and when the lid sprang open the spin started up again. Part of the latching mechanism was visible in the latching hole. Something must have gone wrong with the Bowden cable / latch system.

Handle

I managed to get the missing bit of the handle from the person I got the machine off so I'm really chuffed as it would have been a nightmare tracking a new one down. Any ideas on the best glue to stick it back on so it stays there?
