I found these 3 model fridges from Amana,Samsung and L.G. while surfing on the web earlier today, interesting that they look very similar and all have the through the fridge door cold water via a water tank bult into the door.
Actually if the G.E. S.B.S were to die on me the L.G.559 litre is one I would seriouslyu consider getting to replace it.
Happy new year to all and my best wishes to you all for good health, prosperity and enduring friendships.
Cheers.
Steve.

I just had to open my mouth didn't I

Talk about putting a curse on one's self, I arrived home from work today and my sister informs me that the icecream in the freezer is soft, the mmilk is a bit warm and the G.E. does not seem as cool as it should be,I checked it out and she was right, so I have now had to turn the temperature controls around to 9 which is maximum, so perhaps we will be lookinmg at one of these sooner than I thought.
I don't think I will bother with repair people as this will be the 4th service in under a year for the S.B.S. and we will not be getting another S.B.S.

G.E. back in Oz

While browsing through fridges today, I noticed that G.E. are back in Oz there were 2 models on show at the local Clive Peters store, very highly priced though, one model was over$8000.00.
Another funny thing I noticed today whilst comparing prices I found an online electrical store called the electricdiscounter.com.au, actually had the above mentioned L.G. 559 litre for about 150-200 dollars cheaper than any of the actual stores, the fridge was $1549.00 at Clive Peters, $1499.00 at the Good Guys and $1599.00 at Bing Lee, however the electricdiscounter was selling them for $1279.00, and the chap at Good guys actually said to me that we do not compete prices with online stores and then basically ran online stores into the ground saying if you have problems you have no redress and we give extended warranties and so forth,(which I would not bother with really.),and then incredibly enough the salesman actually said "Sir, believe me you will really need an extended warranty with whatever you buy today",and interesting sales pitch I thought.
I do not beleive what he said about online stores as we bought the washing machine from one called Appliancesonline and they were excellent.
Cheers good people.

Steve...

Clive Anthonys had French door Bosch (made by Daewoo) fridges of about 615 litres on sale last week....they were down from $1699 to $1286 and then a further $300 cash back from Bosch...I think the cash back still applies...

...and to make it a little sweeter, they seem to have performed very well in the last Choice test, just missing out on a recommendation....for my money, $1399 ish for a big fridge like that is pretty sound...that Bosch are prepared to put their badge on it just makes me think it is a bit of a bargain

Bosch by Daewoo

Hi Chris,
Yes I looked up that Choice report too, actually they are doing fridges again in March I believe, have you noticed the actual Daewoo range of fridges in stores, some of them are really attractive looking and one model has a 5 star energy rating and a couple of models come with a 2 year warranty on everything(as most manufacturers do.)but they also come with an additional 5 years on the sealed system sat no extra cost.
I actually don't mid the top freezer model 524 litres and I have seen it for around about $900.00 also good value for money.
Cheers Chris.

Before you scrap the GE

Get out your trusty vacuum, slide the frige out and take the back pannel off. Make sure the condensor is clean underneath as well. Then make sure the condensor fan is blowing.

Had a neighbor that was ready to replace the fridge when it was discovered a mouse had gotten itself stuck in the fan. Without the condnesor fan blowing the fridge couldn't cool. Removed now dead mouse, cleaned accumulated dust and lint. Still cooling.

Thanks for the tip

Thanks for the tip Iheartmaytag, done as you suggest, and there was plenty of dust, however the repairman came today and the news is not too good, apparently the defrost heater has gone and the P.C. board is faulty and the repair costs to me are not worth it.
1.New P.C. board- $495-Aus+50.gst.
2.Defrost heater- $80-90.Aus+10.gst.
3.Callout service fee-$55.00.
So you see for repairs I am up for around $650-700 dollars, simply not worth it in my view.
Mind you I am not really surprised as the previous repairman who handled the warranty repairs did warn me that the spare parts for these are horrendously expensive.
So I guess this means we are off to buy a new fridge shortly, oh well look at the fun I can have shopping and comparing.
Cheers.

Criminal

Well Ron, it is my fault for falling for the Kleenmaid sales pitch in the first place, however I have always liked G.E. as a brand, always thought them to be synonomous with quality, perhaps not so these days, actually I did a google search the other day and typed in problems with G.E. fridges and found that there numerous problems with different models in the U.S.A and it lead to a large class action being taken against them by various consumers when it was found that the company were aware of a particular design fault in certain models but did nothing to advise people it would seem.
Perhaps some of our U.S. friends might know about this and could shed some light on the subject for us.
Again look at the positives I get to spend a fair bit of time in whitegoods sections of stores shopping around.
Cheers.
Steve.
