50's GE 40" Pink Range-Need Model Number

Hi, I've just found this wonderful vintage GE 40 inch, double oven range. It's a lovely pale pink. It also has the Sensi-temp feature, along with the rotisserie, and 2 electric outlets, one with a timer.

My problem....the model number has been scrubbed and I can't read it....anyone have an idea as to what model range I have?

Beautiful Range

Your range is a 1959 model.  I do not have the 1959 literature, but earlier years and later years both identify this model (40", dual ovens, TOL) as a J408, so it's very likely that this is your model number as well.

Model # For An Old GE Range

The model # tag has the ranges model# embossed in the tag so even if any printed lettering is gone the important model # and serial # should still be readable. Did you find the model tag?

Finding Model Number

Hi, thanks for all the info you've shared about my stove!
I did find (what I think is) the model tag. There is a metal tag riveted in the space between the 2 bottom drawers. Problem is someone has scrubbed it to the point that I just can't read the numbers! I swear, if it were a gun I'd think they were trying to rub off the serial number!....lol...
Anyone know where I could find a manual for it?

Theres a downloadable 1957 manual available here for $3.99 in the "Manuals & Literature" section. If you specifically want a 1959 manual try ebay.

Wow, that must have been some scrubbing! I wonder if the model number would be readable under UV light?

On my 1966 and 1969 GE ranges, there was a schematic diagram -- with model number -- tucked into an envelope glued to the inside of the upper back panel. Can you remove the upper back panel -- please unplug the range first! -- and see if there's a schematic in there? Good luck.

1959 might be old enough that the schematic was still glued to the back of the range.
