The first rule

Is always to get hot water into the pump and let it set for a while before turning on motor. The protocol is to pour HOT water into the drain hose, a couple quarts or more. Let the water do its solvent work, maybe 10 miniutes or so. Then turn the dial to rinse. The pulsator will start and the water will pump out. You're in business. Good Luck with what Ben has christened this model as, "The Red Headed Orphan."
