That's perfect for a cottage - scalloped edges..hmm, not my taste, but there 'tis .

My temptation would be...

to see if that scalloped edge is removable or not. If not, I'd trim it in a wide chrome band to cover it up.

Good idea. Personally, I'd omit the clock if possible. All things are possible.

Scalloped Edge:

Those were usually an optional accessory. When I was a kid, we had a non-vented Kenmore hood used in conjunction with a Nutone wall fan. It had the scalloped-edge accessory; I removed it many times for a thorough cleaning. It removed by loosening some screws on the underside of the hood.

Nutone made the Kenmore hoods at that time. Ours was copper-anodized aluminum. The one in the photo appears to have been made by another manufacturer; Nutone hoods had angled sides, not straight sides as the one in the photo does.

I would seriously caution anyone who values the continued existence of their scalp against buying this hood or one of similar design, like Vent-A-Hood. I made that mistake once, and paid for it with some pretty damned impressive gouges in my cranium when I forgot about the sharp corners when bending over to peer into pots and pans. Just to be clear, it's not the scalloped edge that's the problem - it's the sharp corners of the hood itself.

I don't say everyone would have trouble with it - I am six-four, and a more, uh, vertically challenged person might not have the problem I did when bending down for a closer view of the rangetop.

But for those of us who are taller, beware. And keep up with your health insurance premiums.

Not a huge fan of the scalloped trim, but having a small clock obsession, that's a pretty cool concept.  I wonder if it was a DIY project though?  Seems like an odd combination.

Tall folks and range hoods...

a serious consideration whenever you find yourself installing one of these. I'm a little under 6'3"....and mounted mine much higher than standard for not only to alleviate the injury risks but also because there is nothing worse than a hood or microwave hanging 12-15" above a cooking surface. I see SO many kitchens with a ventilation source practically atop the burners. Not only does it look ridiculous but it's gotta be so impractical for all but the shortest people.

More to consider

You and all the other aw.org crowd have me looking at appliances with a different eye, since coming here. Now I'm also checking out appliances on old tv shows.

Most range hoods have angled corners, and most people wouldn't have any concern about hitting it; but it would probably run into me, eventually.
