More like 60s? Someone, anyone? Just $40..

Ad:Vintage Working 50's Whirlpool Imperial Refrigerator, all original, works great, there is a circulating fan in the door that is noisy, but works, The Freon circuit is original and has never been serviced. I have actually used this as a freezer, by running it on the highest setting. I am a refrigeration tech myself and a fan of vintage appliances. this thing runs great. THERE IS SURFACE RUST ON THE LOWER PORTION OF THE DOOR. Just offering it someone who might appreciate this classic top of the line refrigerator. I would hate to give it to DTE for the $40.
so please dont come out offering any less.

A circulating fan in the door?  I'd like to know more about that.

Phil, I'd say this fridge is a late '50s machine.  It doesn't appear to be frost free.

Very nice for $40, and complete too!  It would be a contender if I were in the market and it was near me.  That surface rust could possibly be removed or diminished with some car cleaner.

It really is a well-appointed refrigerator/freezer.  I wonder what the wording is on those five compartments in the door.  Butter, cheese/dairy, eggs?  What else?

Then there are the in-door tilt-out shelves that appear to be adjustable.  I like that idea.  That they are intact indicates this fridge is not familiar with the concept of abuse.

I guess that's a meat drawer under the serpentine coil, although I can't make out the actual drawer.  Good place for it.

I hope this fridge finds an equally loving home as it had for the past 55 or so years.  I'd almost have to get it if it were near me.  A tricked out model in phenomenal condition, and the handles are where I want 'em too.  I could overlook that rusty section if I couldn't make it disappear.

Fan in late 50s Whirlpool Manual defrost Freezers

WP had this feature in several combination refrigerator-freezers and upright freezers, it was there to make food freeze faster and even out temperatures that are often a problem in upright manual freezers, upper door shelves are almost always not the best place to store things for example. This was a clever idea that worked, but as people who were really interested in great freezers started to buy Frost Free there was less reason to include costly features like this in manual defrost freezers.

John is helping me work with a generous helpful member hoping to bring this over the top fabulous fridge home where I have the matching Whirlpool Imperial range! Keeping fingers crossed and hoping to have more and good news to report...

hometown territory but no help

Moparguy - I hope it works out. If I could assist in any way, I would - but my nephew , who works alot and is too tired by Sunday, isn't an option. So, hope it all clicks to reality.

Thanks so much for the offers... hopefully this will work out, the seller wants the fridge to move out very soon, so we are working to make it happen...

Cant wait to see it...

This was I believe, one of the first Whirlpool refrigerators, I dont know but it might have one of the Seeger rotary compressors." Seeger was the company that built Coldspots until 57 when Whirlpool bought them out...encouraged by Sears who wanted more products under one management, they also bought Birtman electric co to get the vacuum and mixer business under the same management....Sears had some pull in those days!!

Mission Accomplished!!!

So many thanks to Phil (ovrphil) and Jason (bluejay) for posting this really awesome fridge... and to Eric (epixstar) for offering help... and especially to Anthony (mopar65) who took the time to drive to Detroit and save this fridge this morning!!! It never would have come together without Anthony's immediate willingness to provide the time, effort and truck this morning! Awesome!!! It's not quite as nice as the photos suggest... a bit of cleaning and detailing required... but it has been saved and will mate well with my RCA whirlpool Imperial range! Pics will come as we sort out the road trip north for the pick up! And thanks to this great group of you who made it possible!
