Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I will NEVER sell mine either-have three of them-was thinking if I ever get them "recapped" would use them for the front channels of my home theater. After all REAL movie theaters used these amps in the past!Pair them with Altec VOTT speaker systems-hi-Fi and theater sound bliss!!And I have a MC225 stereo power amp.Modified it to use EL-34,6CA7 tubes instead of the more expensive and harder to find 7591.It too, needs caps.Sweet little amp-25W per channel.Used it with STAX electrostatic headphones.Oh yes-have MI75-the commercial, industrial version of the MC75.they have a rack mount case-and a plain grey paint-not the shiny pretty chrome. And yes, they need caps.for me time is also the issue besides trying to get caps.Tubes are no problem.

Audio bliss

Tolivac - it sounds like you have the dream system.
I want another MC75 to power the front channels of the house audio system. Great minds think alike! Thanks for the tip on the ALTEC speakers.
I used to go to radio meets frequently. Haven't done so in years. Bummer. I've just got to get back on the scene. Either I want to meet up with the Appliance gang here or catch up with my radio friends. I've got a horrible case of the winter blahs.
As an aside - for evening cocktails we often listen to fun vinyl on a VM phono. I've mentioned this phono before on this site. We buy fun and odd vinyl titles for pennies at estate sales and either rock or laugh over drinks.
Well, the other day... HUMMMMMMMMMM.
OK. The phono was made in 1955. That blasted cap lasted 56 years!
One capacitor, one needle, one cleaning and one hour later we were back to our evening tunes. Gotta love vintage!

filter cap failure

when the cap went on my '62 stromberg-carlson tuner i was actually listening
to it at the time-listening to Art Bell on AM 1500 minneapolis(in 1997)when
suddenly HUMMMMM...For a second thought there might be connection problem
between the tuner and the '69 heathkit 14w mono tube amp,but noticed the
tuning eye display was strange as the tuner was running undervoltage on
pulsed DC...
BTW the tuner was salvaged from a school PA system console i found at the
dump,it also included two big stromberg carlson amps(each has a pair of
tung-sol 6550s)and a V-M built turntable with big 4-pole motor.
all the rectifiers in this equipment are silicon"tophat"diodes.

The system I mentioned is what I would LIKE to have.Keep in mind Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater speaker systems are LARGE-the lower bass cabinet--"bass bin""tub"can be the size of a 'fridge. The tweeter horn on top can add another about 2 ft of height.but these systems are EFFICIENT--can take only a few watts to drive them compared to more watts of todays LESS efficient but smaller speaker systems. With the advent of low cost high power solid state amplifiers-speaker systems got smaller,cheaper--but less efficient. Many old theaters have had their VOTTS rebuilt.Worth it to them.Would love a set!!So--if you find a pair of VOTTS-you will need a TRUCK to move them and strong backs to bring them into your home and listening area.fortunately the tweeter horn can be removed for transport.you reinstall it back on the top of the cabinet at the installation site. And another good theing about these systems-you can use the passive Altec crossover unit-or biamp them-there are active crossovers you can use for this-remember you will need at least two amps with the crossover-one for the bass and the other for the tweeter.the amps are driven from the active crossover unit-your preamp feeds into the active crossover.
Nice find on the Stromberg Carlson sound system. The 6550amps should give anywhere from 40-75W of output power.I have had systems that used the VM auto TT's -nice TT's.
There was a freind of mine that used to work in a theater-He loved playing his records thru the VOTT's during maintenance sessions at the theater-like when working on the projectors and such.Brace yourself--if you look in the right places you amy be able to find a surplussed 35MM film theater projector for your "Home" theater.Again strong backs and a truck needed to move these-they disassemble for moving. And you may need 220V to run it.For home theater a short focus lens is needed and a smaller bulb for the lamphouse.Plus a sturdy floor to put the projector on-assembled these may weigh 1000 pounds! But would be fun!
