I got this deep fryer at a humane society yard sale last summer for $2 .. i didnt even think it would work but brought it home loaded it with oil and did some cooking .. and wow this thing works great and cooks food better then anything i have ever owned . it is even a slow cooker but im not sure if it is supposed to have a liner for that ..but i dont think so .. this even has a lid to it .. so when it cools down i close it up and put it away .. this machine is from 1952 .. even the basket is original .. couldnt ask for a better lil appliance .. :)

Fast or Slow

You can dial the heat down to simmer and this will indeed "slow" cook anything. In the 70's Sunbeam jumped on the slow cooker band wagon and make a crockery liner for both the deep fryer and their square electric fry pan. I'm with you, why waste your time and money on a separate slow cooker or insert when this baby does such a good job without it. The heating coils run around the sides of the deep fryer and not the bottom so crumbs and bits that fall into the oil don't lay on the bottom and burn.

I havent done any slow cooking in it just deep fried stuff and it was really .. i had just done some chicken wings before i did the onion rings .. :)
I love this thing ..

These were quality Sunbeam fryers,  nothing like the cheap "Betty G's" from the discounters.  My Sunbeam is NIB from 1964, iirc, it has teflon lining and the cord is permanently attached. "Nice homes" always had a Sunbeam fryer and Mixmaster proudly on the counter, in the mind of a 9 year old,  an opinion i still have.  Enjoy your Sunbeam Fryer.   alr

Oh i have enjoyed my fryer . i love it .. it is so easy to just pull out and plug in .. the plug in is removeable from the fryer .. it is a long one

Just be careful where you place those cords. Newer fryers have break away cords where the tension needed to disconnect the cord is less that what would be required to dump the appliance over. Lots of people have been burned by wired in cords when tripped on over the years. Be extra careful with these.

Oh this is not a wired in cord .. it pulls out .. and i make sure it is all wrapped up behind my coffee machine so it doesnt hang at all .. or get on my stove.. i have a cook top and it is right next to it . not much counter space at all.. and plus i have 2 Jack russells that bug me in the kitchen expecially mine he has to be right under my feet .. but i dont let him in there when im deep frying . i couldnt handle seeing him get burned .. just lost one dog (my old boy) couldnt handle losing another one so soon ..

A lot of people got in trouble when they would put their fryers on a table and let the cord cross the path where people would walk. Of course when somebody tripped on the cord the oil with food and hot oil would go flying!

It sounds like you are taking all the proper precautions. Those onion rings DO look delicuous! I get a taste for those from time to time.

Oh ya im so carefull when deepfrying .. i couldnt imagine someone getting burned from the oil .. kid or pet .. i keep the loooooong cord wrapped around my coffee machine for 2 reasons . to keep it away from the fryer so it dont melt it and keep it away from my element so it dont melt it if im cooking on the stove to .. i dont know why this thing has such a long cord .. i think it is like a 5 or 6 foot cord.. a lil to long for my liking .. but i love the fryer .. i might just use to to make some onion rings and egg rolls .. :) for dinner ..
