Last weekend saw the annual trip to Malmsbury, Wiltshire for the gathering of "Hoover" collectors, as it was the 60th birthday of the famous Hoovermatic Twintub washing machine first produced in July 1957 we have a toast to the old girl and hauled out a number of "Hoovers" to play with as well...

As you drive down the leafy lanes nearby you turn a sharp bend and there in front of you is Kemble Cotswolds Airport for small planes and helicopters but they have these mature "Queens of the Skys" at the side of the road, first time I came down it was at night and I nearly crashed the car not knowing where I was, when I see this landmark I know "I`ve Landed".

First load in and done in 4 minutes with the Hoover Pulsating Boiling washing action, which produces 7 strong whirling current of energised water to roll your clothes through the water, hence the very quick wash times. You can see how they advertised it as speeding through the family wash in 40 mins.

Heres Alistair (Vacbear58) and Mathew (Keymatic3203) rinsing while a second load is washing.

Hoovermatic Facts:

Height 31 x Width 30 inches x Depth 16.5 inches
Weight: 105 lbs
Pulsator motor rpm 1,425
Spinner motor rpm 9,000
Pump rpm 2,100

Pulsator rpm 545
Spinner rpm 2,100
Heater 3kW
Water capacity 8 and half gallons

Of course its snot a Hoover Wasday without the "Hoover Splat"...usually as the washload is swirling around the force of the rolling clothes produces a plume of water which usually goes over the top of the tub and lands on the floor, even with the lid on it somehow manages to come through the handgrip.

As with most washing machines of that era they came with a package of "User Information" from a detailed handy washcard to be kept near your machine for quick instructions on how to use, to booklets on "washing the Hoover Way" as well as guarantees and leaflets of other supporting products, a far cry from todays printed booklets.

60th Hoover Birthday Event

Wow looks like a great time thanks for posting all the fun Mike.

You guys in the UK really have some great get togethers, I can't wait to get back over there again.

I am going to head over to Australia this month to see fellow collectors Leon and Nathan and others to usher in Springtime in Australia.

I am hoping to get back to London this fall and hopefully next year as well.

For me its the enjoyment of likeminded people coming together and sharing stories, hints, repair tips and getting stuck in to repairing the appliances like you did when here that makes this hobby so great !!
