$600 Turquoise Maytag Set - Marshall, Michigan

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Early 60s TOL Turquoise Maytag Pair

They need more pictures and a description of operating condition etc

If the additional information revels that these are as good as they look they may be worth every penny of $600

We have this pair in brown at the museum all restored which is where they will stay, they are just way to mediocre in performance to be anything you would want to use on a regular basis, but they are pretty.

That dryer is timed dry only, it's not Electronic Dry Control, so it's not TOL.

The 160 debuted in 1959 and the 642C/742C debuted in 1960, so this combo would actually be TOL for '59.

IIRC, the 160 debuted the grey buttons/gold dotted panel glass, and the round Maytag badge on the front panel.

Judging by the outside panels this set looks to be minty and worth the asking price. A bonus would be a shiny white wash tub.

$600 is a fair price for rare machines, particularly the 160, in a rare color with paint/cabinets in excellent condition. Repainting is the most expensive ordeal in restoring machines of this age. Mechanicals of the washer are basically the same through 1989. If the inner tub shows common wear due to the Bakelite agitator, a white tub from an 80's stacked unit can be swapped in as well as some first gen small capacity LAT machines. For improved performance, swap in a Powerfin agitator and 63 OPM gears or keep the original gearing and install a 50Hz pulley and achieve 67.5 OPM's with a 756 RPM spin. Mechanically, the dryer is the same through 1975. Easy restoration for someone who enjoys working with their hands.

Thanks Bob! I just hope they went to a good home. My mom says “hi back!”

I can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years… seems like a few years ago to me! It’s been a very long time since I’ve made it a wash-in. Hopefully in the future!
