60s Coldspot side by side in Norcross GA $20

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

It's certainly worth $20.

These were good, reliable refrigerators.  My mom's 1975 version was still running when we unloaded it in 2008.  The only repairs it ever needed were a new condenser fan and a compressor relay.

I wonder if the grille on the subject fridge has always been white or if it was silver originally.

I grew up with one.

Ours looked like that, but the bottom grill was aluminum colored, and the inside turquoise. My folks bought it in June of 1967.
I recall the compressor died at 41/2 years old. They only had to pay labor.
They sold it to a neighbor and it still works, but is frost free, so the defrost heater is always on. No defrost timer.

Monochrome Painted Grilles were….

I think, available from about '66 onward. I sure do love my '62 Coldspot! Wouldn't mind having this Side by side at all!

I love the soft & hard butter feature.  I don't know why it disappeared.  I'm hoping to find a vintage BF GE Combination with soft & hard one of these days.   I would not be surprised to find  the Koreans are offering it again like it's something new and creative.

Just you wait.  It's only a matter of (very little) time, thanks to the internet of things, before butter can be controlled by a so-called "phone," or by a spy stove that runs algorithms to figure out what time breakfast, lunch and dinner should start on any given day or date.

What is up with no defrost timer?  How can the evaporator get cold enough?  Even the 1961 Coldspot BF that lived at my sister's house had a defrost timer that ran the cycle only every eight or twelve hours.

I agree Kenny.  The heater and the evaporator would be trying to cancel each other out, and the heater would win.  If anything, it seems to me the opposite situation would exist, where there's no (working) timer and therefore no defrosting, except via human intervention.

Louie--Thanks!

Tho' for the record, I should probably say that it is a 1963 model (built in Dec. '62)….just in case anyone ever wants to confirm style changes by year… :D
