I'm looking into a '60's Kirby with "beige bag". That's all the info I can get on it at this time. Oh, it's working well and has a lot of attachments, including shampooer.

Is there anything I should look for when I finally get to see it?

Hmmm

The only advice I can give is use your best judgement.
It should be easy to tell if the machine has been cared for, or looks like it was dragged behind a bus.
It should sound smooth(older Kirbys can be kinda loud)no rattles or grinding noises.
A little dirty on the outside is ok too, you should be able to tell if it will only need a wipe off to shine, or need to be scrubbed.
Good luck and keep us posted!

check the bag for leaks. see that the spring that holds the handle upright is still holding. check the brushroll to make sure it turns well and has good bristles. check the cord. the seal on the swingaway door to the dirt cup often needs replacing. check the shoe on the bottom of the nozzle to make sure its not rusted, or to be sure its still there! and most importantly, as Jeff pointed out, LISTEN to the motor. vibrations or groaning or laboring or just too much noise means somethings wrong. its should rev up and coast smoothly.
