got my Westinghouse "jet set" B/W TV out of storage and on the workbench:got it about 16 years ago in inop condition-tried it after getting it and it did nothing-today checked for a circuit at cord and there was 6 ohms and both fuses intact,so might give it another try after a gentle power up on the variac or series bulb after a few checks have been done :).Set,all solid state except HV rectifier and PX,has a dark-tinted glass panel over the PX,so just a black rectangle visable when set off-mid-'60s chic :).Looks same as '65 version, but date codes of 6528-6601 found on internal components.Looks like Westinghouse TVs had a fairly short run as I have only seen westy TVs from around mid-1950s~1970 era.

The folks once had a Truetone, Western Auto TV.  I remember Mom noticing the glow in the back one night, when it was off.  I think she was unplugging because of a lightning storm.

I have heard some recon "instant on" feature actually helped preserve the tubes since internal parts not moving around from thermal expansion during warmup-others have thought tubes get "used up" faster always heated :)In the jet set, found another fuse-this one blown-it is a weird short length "bayonette" type-clipped in a 100w bulb instead, and set lit up and had sound, but HV not working-seems that section pulling excess current-most parts have passed basic checks, but have not tested HO transistor and there is a sketchy looking area on the flyback,so I hope that is ok...

bad flyback

so it will be a fridgetop decoration for a while before being placed back into storage-meanwhile will keep an eye out for replacement flyback possibilities...

wondering if flyback a weakness on these

all other mid 1960s jet sets I have seen online have all been inop-and mine a little"shopworn"-sloppy repair solder jobs, mis matched screws,'69 dated HOT, etc...so these might not have been all that reliable...next might move a '61 Magnavox onto the bench-this one actually still works, but corona can be heard at times and no doubt some caps are quite stale :)another is a 1960 portable(forget the brand, might be Admiral)A series string set,has two white ceramic plug in silicon diodes instead of the selenium usual at the time.

Too bad on the flyback-If the set is that precious you could see if replacements are available.Otherwise try to get a working transformer from another junk set.Last resort you could put a new chassis and screen in the cabinet-yes,its cheating-but sometimes a good alternative than letting a good cabinet go to waste.

I have a box of 10 or 12 salvaged flybacks I mostly saved for plasma balls and other "Tesla"devices-if I find where I have those stashed, will see if any compatable :)
