I figured I would share a pic of the mixer I was gifted this past weekend. A friend of mine bought it last year and used it only once. He was diagnosed with cancer and passed away this past August. His partner asked me if I wanted the mixer since he doesn’t bake and he knew that I would take care of it. I am honored to get this machine. It’s a ProLine 7 qt beast. I am looking forward to using it. I still have my 4.5 qt KA mixer that is still going strong after close to 30 years of use. That mixer is a Hobart built one.

That's a beauty!

Sorry to hear about the circumstances around you acquiring this mixer. That's a great gift.

I just bought the 6 Quart model and I love it (actually a Christmas present from hubby but I couldn't wait to use it). What I love about mine and yours is that they have DC motors. They seem to run much more smoothly than the older ones. I also love the smooth start. I have the 5 Quart Pro Line that I bought in 1989. It's still going strong but I really wanted a shiny new one with the glass bowl.

So far, I have made pizza dough a couple of times, pasta dough and used my pasta rollers, ground chicken for sausage, banana bread and cheesecake. When I was grinding the chicken it didn't even flinch. The older one would some times groan a little but kept going. I think your's has a bigger motor than this one so I can't imagine what you could do with it.

These are amazing machines that I suspect you will love. You may want to consider the smaller bowl with the combi-whip because these bowls are so huge. I used it to make the banana bread and cheesecake. It is the perfect size for smaller batches like that. I was afraid I wouldn't use it as much if I had to use that huge bowl for smaller amounts. I don't know if they make a smaller bowl for the 7 Quart but you may want to check into it.

I think you're gonna love it.

Well this mixer has a 1.3 hp motor and it’s the closest thing I will ever get to a commercial mixer. I agree that the bowl is massive so for smaller tasks I will continue to use the KA 4.5 qt mixer. One thing I did notice when I plugged it in is how quiet the mixer is compared to the older KA mixer that I have. I plan on putting it thru a workout on Monday and Tuesday when I make cookies. I did go online to look for a scraper paddle since I have one for the older KA mixer. A KA branded one comes in at a hefty $52 on Amazon. I need to take a jaunt over to Kolhls and see if they have that paddle since I have $40 in Kohl’s Kash that needs to be used next week.

That mixer will always be much more special than one you simply purchased. Being remembered by friends and family, even for a short while, is important. I think of all the "stuff" I should start giving away beginning with the start of the new year. 4 stand mixers, 4 blenders and many many more appliances, some of them never used. Pinballs, jukeboxes and assorted other big things too. You reach the "clutter" stage very quickly. My diagnosis was in February, so I still have time to make people smile.

I did find time to put a few things out in front for the holidays. My neighbor snapped this pic. I wish members posted photos of their decorations. In the past there were some really nice ones.

Flex Edge Beater

Mark, mine came with that beater even though on line it did not state it was included. Is it an option to ask your friend if maybe it is tucked in a drawer somewhere? I was surprised when I opened the box.

While we're on the topic of mixers......

The other day I was on eBay and I discovered these. I thought to myself what self-respecting (insert whichever noun or adjective you prefer to refer to a gay man) doesn’t want a rainbow inspired mixer cover?

Full disclosure: I have never been an appliance cover fan. Not at all but I couldn’t resist this one. I’m not sure I’ll keep it on long term but it’s a fun conversation piece.

That's a really nice thought of your friend's partner to pass this along to you. I believe it was the 7 quart that Kelly told me he was finally able to make peace with a KitchenAid mixer. He usually made very large batches and found the size and performance of the machine nearly equal to his all-time favorite Mix Master. Be sure to update us with your impressions after you run it for a few things. The DC motor does sound appealing, especially the slower start.

I have always had white KA mixers and have recently been plagued with longing for more color. I need another mixer like a hole-in-the-head, but when has that ever mattered? :-)

So far I have made a recipe of California Pizza Kitchen pizza dough and mixed up a recipe of meatballs in this mixer. i am liking the wider bowl and the pouring shield. This thing doesn't miss a beat and its much quieter than the other KA mixer that I have. The dough hook that I used to make the pizza dough is very interesting to watch and it kneads the dough better than the hook I have for the 5 qt KA mixer ...plus the dough does not ride up the hook like in the smaller mixer.
I used the paddle this afternoon to make the meatball mixture and I am thinking I may not need the scraper paddle after all since it clears the bowl....but thats with a meat mix, lets see how cookie dough does....
