Prep sinks

y+Yes, they still make prep sinks. I had one in the house where we just moved from. And the house before that one. I installed them myself in both. But I have never seen a model with the disposal. That is very cool.

Our new house (actually, very old, new house) I will not be able to have a prep sink. The kitchen is too small AND I have a vintage Elkay stainless steel double drainboard sink waiting in my basement. I got it from Habitat for Humanity.

My friend's grandmother had the sink with the disposal compartment in the corner. Probably the hardest sink to use. She would have to clean out the big portion to peel carrots, potatoes, etc and then scoop them into the disposal. Scraping a plate or a pot out you needed really good aim to get it exactly in the opening. Splashing was also a nightmare. The wall and the counter behind the disposal corner was constantly wet.

Not Again!

Picture #5...

How could I have missed the thread. Its the ORIGINAL GSD1200! "The Potscrubber III," advertised by Debbie Reynolds (and with woodgrain trim!)

LIIIIISAAAA!!!!

"I have a vintage Elkay stainless steel double drainboard sink waiting in my basement. I got it from Habitat for Humanity."

You lucky, LUCKY person! I have been looking for one of those for twenty years. They cost a bleedin' fortune new - current list is over $1400.

If you ever run across a second one, a heads-up would be appreciated.

Damn, that's lucky!

A photo of the current version is below. They're self-rimmed nowadays, but they were made for years in a version trimmed with a Hudie ring. Love me some Hudie rings - but I wouldn't turn my nose up at the self-rimmed one, LOL.[this post was last edited: 10/2/2014-11:43]
