80s washers

Hoover, not sure about he round door on this one though, doesn't quite have the same appeal as the square door

Love the older Philips machines, particularly for the way they launch into a spin cycle with a full tub of water. Plenty of splashing, and despite having no distribution phase, surprisingly little vibration. One of my friends had a Variatronic AW096 (I think?) dating from '80-'81, which I believe is older than the one in the pic above. Was still working when he got rid of it, and he did voice his regret when the machine taking its place died after just a few years. Live and learn.

The Hoover is very similar to the machine an ex of mine had, a slightly newer EcoLogic 800. I agree, it does lack that certain something in terms of styling. The sounds and action are the same, but even so, square door = "proper" Hoover!

As for the vintage Zanussi, I'm guessing this is the same design of machine that later appeared with a black control panel? When I was at school one of the Home Economics classrooms had one of these, and it was virtually silent even when spinning. Tons of programmes too, for what looked like such a basic machine it certainly had everything covered.

Zanussi classic

That Zanussi is very similar to the DL4 model my freinds mum had. It was a slightly different control panel without the three buttons but looks about the same design. It was great fun to watch, a very slow spin speed and high water levels.Used to sit infront of it loads when i was a kid. It never went wrong and only rusted away eventually needing replacing due to that in about 1999 after donkeys years of service. What a machine. This one was on ebay the other week. guess it didn't sell. Someone must want it. I aint got room, making space for my Hoover Vision that i hope to win.

Zanussi Z218T

The zanussi is the first of the 800 spin machines although it only spun at 800 for 2 mins at the end,

The Philips is based on the whirlpool machines, different factory produced it than the 096, 098 permag motor machines...

The Hoover model is probably one of the most boring designs Hoover did, wer`re losing the chrome and the will to live at this point...

unfortunately i have no room to keep any of the machines :-( but the Philips and Hotpoint are personal favourites of mine! like the zanussi aswell.

I disagree with the looks of that logic! i think its nice! lol obviously not as much as my logic 1300. & yes i am biased with hoover bein my fav brand lol. well guys. i think i'm gonna have to help you all out & aqquire one of these machines. my parents are goin away for a few months. a perfect time to ease a number member of the family in!

I have the Philips machine at the top. It is an AWB904 (?). It is way at the back of my shed, I have fitted new bearings to it but some of the plastics holding the timer and the console in place are cracked, not very solidly built. It is a very basic machine, it uses a simple induction motor and only spins about 450 rpm. It does three rinses with a spin after each rinse, the first FL I ever found which does that. It does not spin with a full tub of water, it pumps out first.

i dunno. im stuck. i want something new. i like those zanussis. those philips look fun. & the logics nice. prbly but i dont really want a 2nd logic. im scouting ebay for something new. im in two minds really. my newwave 1300 washerdryer will not do 1300 it needs a new module. & its startin to wear thin on me. i dont no weather to rid or not.

ne suggestions!?
