Does anyone have recommendations of a quality low suds detergent available in the UK? I find them all so foamy and I am careful about dosing as I have soft water. Currently using Sainsburys Colour powder which I haven't used for years but now seems very sudsy. Persil Powergems were perfect for me but now very difficult to find.

I really like SMOL but they only do pods, it's really low sudsing. I still add a scoop of stain remover if I'm doing a load of whites

I have soft water, and the best controlled-suds seems to be Persil Biological Powder. I was quite surprised that I could put in 60, 70, 80 ml and the suds weren't filling the door glass.

If I had tried that with Lidl 'Formil' powder, foam would be gushing out the powder drawer.

As for liquids, I find Star Brands 'Star Drops: The Pink Stuff' very sudsy. It is also very runny stuff, too easy to overdose. It seems to have more surfactants than Lidl's thicker concentrated liquid.

Star Brands make the Lidl liquid too, but it's suds are controlled very well.

Ariel Gel seems to be very sudsy too, the stated dose is usually far too much.

A member here by the handle "Jetcone" developed his own non sudsing detergent that worked extremely well. Production was halted for a while, not sure if he's making it again.

It is the Unilever Persil in the green box. They updated the packaging fairly recently (past year or so). I think it is classed as more concentrated.

I find it clumps in the powder drawer. I just put it directly into the drum.

Another vote for Persil bio. The new concentrated range, providing you don’t overdose, wash brilliantly and rinse clear.

In soft water, I’ve found P&G detergents are a nightmare for foaming up and poor rinsing, although Ariel does wash well. The worst for foaming is Ecover.

@hoovermatic i thoroughly recommend Splosh. Cleaning and stain removal on par with Ariel and ultra concentrated! You can only order online but i have been using it for 3 years now and don't use anything different. If i had to recommend branded then Ariel without a doubt and not too foamy.

@hoovermatic meant to mention in my last post Persil Powergems can be found in Wilko or Roys of Wroxham depending where you are in the UK. Normally they have the bio or non bio variants but don't tend to have much stock!
