9 year old (2001) model He3t/water usage. then vs now

Reading over at another laundry forum.......A person was commenting on their he3t being nine years old and only had the pump replaced which was the only repair they had ever had to the machine. She recommended the machine; her friend went out and bought one and she was comparing it to hers.......Someone stated that hers (being a 2001 model) would probably use MUCH more water since in 2001, water factor wasn't considered into the Energystar rating....She said that the NEW machine uses the EXACT same amount of water as her NINE year old he3t..she said that even with no clothes the drum filled up with the same amount of water as hers..........

I thought they lowered the water usage........I guess not. Interesting

That's interesting. We bought our Duet pair in 2006 and it didn't qualify for the highest amount of rebates from the water company and I have to presume it was because it was "last year's model" and must have used more water. I think that when the machines are run empty, they all fill with the same default amount. It's when they have a load of clothes in them that the newer ones start to skimp. Just my guess.

My 26 y.o. miele has the very same low level of the other 11 y.o. one (both empty, main wash).

Differences are in rinses. The old one has 4 "half door" rinses on full load cycles and 4 low level rinses in half load cycles. The new one is self adaptive and changes levels and rinse number depending on the current load.
Also with 4 "half door" rinses it uses less water because of the ecoball valve between tub and cointrap/pump .

So maybe latest duets are more frugal in rinsing ?

Duet rinsing....

This is what my new Duet does...after the main wash it drains and spins a little bit, it fills and rinses for a few minutes, then drains and rinses again and releases the fabric softener. Then you always have the optional Extra Rinse. So far I've haven't had to use the Extra Rinse, with the exception of the Whitest Whites cycle...which automatically uses the Extra Rinse.
