Pics aren't great--they're from real estate site I'm using for my property search out in Atlanta,Georgia.
Would not be heartbroken to have this house OR the kitchen--very simple, stylish and airy without the garish wallpaper, countertops and flooring usually seen in 1973! Not sure I'd want to keep the floor, but some period appliances in my collection would sure look nice in this room!

Funny enough, that trash compactor...

looks like an early 70s frigidaire--I came across what looks to be exactly that style and colour while out appliance hunting today.

And it has been for sale for 200 days...

So…there is ALWAYS a catch when things are this cheap. Still, my curiosity is piqued enough to go out there and look around before I get too caught up in the visuals and prices….

I wonder what the neighborhood is like? I know that there has been some racial disharmony at Stone Mountain.

That is a beautiful home. I think the kitchen is timeless. If that flooring is tile, I'd keep it. All it needs are updated appliances. Lots of new houses today have dark wood kitchen cabinets.

Allen~re; neighbourhoods...

It's a big question for me, hearing various stories about certain parts of Atlanta get discouraging--but I think it's a matter of having to spend some time around the places and see what the "gut" says…and probably studying local police reports.

I don't know….I had never been in Phoenix before--just up and moved here a dozen years back--and lucked out in Phoenix by living in a fabulous area which is just 8-10 blocks away from a dicey area….and when you get outta the scary streets, turn a corner or two, you're into another great locale. I'm hoping it's that way in GA.

The value for the dollar out there (as regards the house/property combination) is VERY hard to resist. But like any place, that fab house--once you've bought it and started living there--could well prove to be a nightmare and feel unsafe. A chance a lot of people wind up taking when moving to a part of the country they've never been before.

As far as that kitchen goes, I'd like to see it with a great 60s pure white/semi gloss linoleum sheet floor--keep the dark cabinets and just add in my black and aluminum appliances from the 70s and 80s :D

VERY NICE PLACE!!!!I could adapt! For 1973 that kitchen is in immaculate condition!Do like the SIMPLE furnishings.Basement is nice-bet that piano is going to be there forever!Hope you can play and like piano music.Hope the water stains on the ceiling tiles in the basement isn't an ongoing condition. The building inspector should be able to tell you.

Beautimous

That wonderful Frigidaire oven with the smaller second oven is faboo. I love the cedar closet in the basement, too.

What is the address? What is the city quadrant or town where this is located? This is expensive construction.

nice house

I like the open layout and setting. The link shows it is under contract and that may be why it shows so many days online. I hope they don't gut the place to make it all HGTV Updated..

200 day listing...

Not sure of the whole story. I see it went into contract last week, but the house has been on my watch list for a couple months--it, like a lot of homes I've been browsing, seems to get relisted a lot. My understanding so far is that financing falls through quite often and the home gets put back on the market. It is VERY much a buyers' market out there right now and TONS of places are for sale. All I've been doing for the past few months is looking online--I've yet to go out there and view anything. My personal "wants" are sort of specific, and I have a file packed with similar houses to eventually see--I'm saving a lot of them now as homes like this one are generally not the only ones like them in a specific neighborhood, so I tend to keep them filed as reference--that way I have 1/2 an idea of where to find larger custom-built stuff on nice-sized property…

Now for the REAL treat! :D

THIS place. EXACTLY what I want. Also for sale a good long time. Nearly 3500sq. ft. and sits on a parklike treed 1/+ acre in what *seems* to be a very swank neighborhood.

The good? Under 100K. CRIPES.
The bad? Way more house than I need, 40 miles south of where we need to be in GA
The worst? It's for sale now…and we aren't anywhere near ready to do anything about it :( *If any of you want to generously go buy it now and hold it for me until I'm ready to move, I won't say no….*

Have fun with the google map tour using Some links below--as you know, this is about as close to an in-person drive around tour as you can get from home! The imagery you'll get outside is far better than what the listing pics are--I swear they used a Mavica from the early 90s….horrid pics--so this is better:

Mavica - lol!  I don't know why some realtors (or their media assistants) insist on such strange pics, the ones I hate the most are the pano-stretched, whole room views.  They make a 12x12' room with an 8' ceiling look like a gymnasium.

Do you have a link to the Carlton Rd. listing so we can critique?   I love the style of house and a corner lot is even better.

Gan~The listing link...

*was* gonna stay private because I'm selfish. Realistically, it makes no sense to keep it to myself so:

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/8374-Carlton-Rd-Riverdale-GA-30296/35788615_zpid/

It's also on Realtor.com (and many others) but the Zillow site tends to not stall my mac so that's the site I'm using now.
Home is 1976 build and has the sort of updating/fixit issues which do not bother me in the least. Kitchen cabinet doors are off for what I guess is repainting….dunno. Anyway--I would not buy blindly without having a good look over and inspection done….but my gut says that this is right up my alley. No basement….but everything else about the place sort of makes that a non-issue. :D

Carlton Rd property if out here...

would be in excess of 2mil. For a house of that size on an acre in my part of Phoenix. 850 grand gets you an acre LOT (NO HOUSE) in my area…and no guarantee of it being on a corner. I LOVE this lot on Carlton Rd. for the established treelike, the backset from the streets and how PRISTINE the landscaping of the neighborhood is based on the 2012 google map street views…

Gary--

Thanks--It is on national MLS, so I also have been seeing it on tons of RE sites. The house keeps going under contract and always realists about a week later. I *think* it's because bank financing hinges on a house being complete out there. This place is missing sinks, ceiling lights, etc. in several rooms, best I can tell from the photos….it probably was in the process of being rehabbed cosmetically…but banks don't like to loan on "fixers"…no matter how light the fixing up is! Funny thing about the home is that it had one owner from 1987 until Nov. 2015 and 1987 purchase price was $141K. Only $762/year in property taxes on a place that size! Unreal...

Sorry - didn't meant to bust it out, I'm sure nobody will jump in on it.

Looking at houses is one of my favorite things, keep them coming!  I have a couple of apps on my phone, Zillow and a local company's and use them all the time. The best feature is the location function to see what a house is listed for when I'm driving in front of it, makes life so much easier.  I remember the huge MLS books full of listings, one B&W picture and a few stats.

It looks like you're finding some good deals out there.  A little work and time and you could have a wonderful home for a steal.

Paint those nice kitchen cabinet doors? If I got into that place after the paint job---well set up the sawhorses and get LOTS of belts for my belt sander and sand the paint off!!!Wish I could get a place like that here where I am.For what it is-that place is selling for a low price. But wonder if there is a catch??
There is a beautiful home out my way-always like looking at it as I drive by it.Now the present owner has erected an UGLY cinder block wall to hide the home from view from the street-and guess he can't see out either. If that place were ever to be mine-would personally drive a 'dozer thru that wall and LOVE it!!!That would be FUN!!

there are many houses on larger lots but not for that price, not typically here in the N.Georgia area.

My wife said a co-worker lives in the Stone Mountain area and to get to the Windward Area, exit 11 off the GA400 freeway, it takes her 1-1.5 hours to get to work and 2 hours to get home. If you can work from your home or assure your commute is not insanely long, there are some older homes on larger lots that, as you can see, can be deals. Just know what area you're getting into. :-)
