A big step forward

Those of us who were lucky enough to escape the 1970's and 80's HIV- (and let's be honest, it was sheer luck, not a bit of our own doing) can't even begin to imagine what a burden this christianist law has been for hundreds of thousands of gay and non-gay people who are HIV+.

In repealing this law, Obama has shown he has the balls to stand up and do what's right.

This is a good day for the United States, a country where doing something because it is right is beginning to return to vogue.

That is excellent news! My partner said in his 24 years of living with HIV, he never felt more stigmatized than when he was banned from entering the US. Good to see change coming....

Well, ummmm it says Congress and former Pres. Bush started the ball rolling. Obama is just finishing the job.

This is great news! My husband Chris(Bendixbubba) is been HIV+ for MANY years, and traveling with his meds has always been nervewrecking and stressful for him. This is a very big relief for both of us.

HIV was the only

disease subject to congressional fiat, all other health matters are left to the doctors at HHS.

The whole mess began when Republicans saw a chance to trade off their support for AZT against banning all HIV+ from entering the US in the early 1990's. This was at a time when they still thought Aids was gay disease and was part of their strategy to eliminate gays from America.
