I think the lack of outrage has more to do with geography than religion. We're talking about the Middle East, which is a cesspool of brutal, repressive theocracies. Gay people may have it marginally better in Israel than in neighboring Islamic countries, but it's basically the same shit with a slightly different shovel: Judaism has a 3500 year history of gay bashing, while Islam has a 1400 year history of gay bashing. And the sad fact is, step across the border in any direction from Israel and you'll be arrested, jailed, possibly castrated and executed for being gay. So atrocities like this are hardly unexpected.
