I sighted Robert for this just well for the same reasons any of us ask Robert for anything.....hes the man!!

IF you play the director commentary on A Christmas Story they say that all of that snow you see in the movie is Soap

Anyone know what kinda soap? Anyone know what kinda machine would cover a whole nieghborhood with soap? Can Robert build it?

This is what brought me to this, Im willing to bet most of us here love that movie (yes Im sure theres some haters too)

Most of us seems to relish the winter season (or at least from recent postings the first layers of it anyway)

so I got to thinking....how about if at some convention in the future we have a snow nite? Esp if its dead center in the middle of summer. How awesome it would have been to see Gregs back yard full of snow that last night I was in Omaha

That would be fun. What does anyone else think?

Really Robert its just a thought.lol. I know you dont have time to build a snow machine.

Yeahhhh for soap parties!!!!

I usually go to many of them in the summer!!! They fill the dancefloor with foam and for a few moments you don't see nothing but white people dancing till it dissipates! And after the night is over you jump in the pool or go straigt to the beach!!!! Ahhh I love it!

There are two types of soap snow that I know of. For coating things, Ivory Flakes or Ivory Snow (granulated for machine efficiency) is mixed with water, whipped into suds and dabbed on stuff. It holds it shape and texture when it dries Used to be a big way of achieving a slightly flocked look on a Christmas tree. The other type is snow is sprinkled Ivory Flakes. When it snowed on the stage of the Fox Theater in Atlanta, they used white corn flakes, sifted from above. They had a slight tendency to clog some of the wind instruments.

I do like "A Christmas Story" a lot, but long before this film was made, there was a similar Jean Shepard piece on PBS (American Playhouse maybe?) that revolved around July 4th instead of Christmas. The only actor I remember in this one was a young Matt Dillon who played the role of a farily dumb-ass son, I believe. Instead of the rifle being the focus of the movie as in "A Christmas Story" it was a washrag chain letter that created a windfall for Dillon's mom. I wish I could find this one again. It was even more hilarious than "A Christmas Story" and had the same narrator.

Jean Shepherd

OK, I found it. Amazing what just a little Googling will do. It was "The Great American 4th of July and Other Disasters" from 1982. I'll have to keep looking to see if there's a way to get my hands on this one.

And don't forget

"Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories". What was the title of the one where the Parkers go on vacation to a mosquito-infested lake? Dorothy Lyman played the mother.

Dorothy Lyman will always be Opal Gardner to me. She really owned that role. I know she's done more serious dramatic stuff but her calling seems to be comedy in my opinion. I'll have to watch for Wanda Hickey--or maybe I can get it on NetFlix.
