Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

If You Haven't Already:

Go to automatice.org and download the 1966 Maytag full-line brochure. Cost is only $3.33, and the scan quality is phenomenal. It's so good, in fact, that I was able to zoom in and read every button and dial setting on the 806 pair I'm getting.

The brochure has a full run-down on the 906s, including specifications. And the photos qualify as washer porn; they're impossibly beautiful and inspire raging lust, LOL.

The instruction card for your 906 is also available there.

just out of curiosity I grabbed the top and gave it a firm pull straight up and off they came

Ugh, some people have all the damn luck....

So today I did some more work on the set and figured out that the dryer came from a home where it was set to 115 volts instead of 220 so I made a cord set and got to give it a test run and it worked just as new, the one problem that I did find was that there was one broken clip on a wire going to the "brain". Dose any one have some thoughts as to what I can use to repair this, I was thinking a female spade connector

Dan: 906s are so automated that you push a button and the agitator releases.

Apparently, this feature is broken on my 906, lol. As luck would have it, I can't find a repair procedure in the service manual either ;>)

I still haven't been successful in wrestling that blasted agitator out yet. I'll have to launch it off with a puller instead of using a 40 pound sledge like I have done in the past. Powerfins are beginning to become rare :(

Congratulations on your new set. They are gorgeous indeed. I must admit I have never seen a 906 in person. They must be effortless to operate.

I must also add, I am intrigued by the Whirlpool dryer. It looks like it is mid 90s at the earliest. I thought the full width door models had stopped being produced a few years earlier. Also, that Maytag commercial washer is unique. I did not know they made a commercial line with a cycle dial. It makes sense, as this was used in a hospital where a washer of commercial lines would be needed, but without requiring coins to be operated.

Stuck Agitator

Dan,
Try a semi-rigid piece of aquarium tubing with some flexible on the end of it. Heat the semi-rigid piece of tubing a little way down from the end just a little bit to mold it to fit the curve of the underneath side of a power-fin and fill the tub with the hottest water and lots of detergent and STPP. Insert the curved piece of tube under the agitator until you get to the air bubble underneath and suck the air out so the water detergent solution will get up to the drive shaft. Then run the machine for awhile and then try and pull the agitator out.

It worked for me last year. If that doesn't work for me next time I'm gonna pull the lid off, lay a bunch of old blankets and padding down, turn the stupid thing upside down and spray some PB Blaster under her skirt. Let it sit over-night. See how she likes that.

Push-Button Maytag Washers&Dryers

Michael the A160S and the A900S Suds-Saver PB MTs did use the same small knob on the top right side of the control panel for the SS operation, your A900S has this knob.

Mike congratulations on your cool new Washer and Dryer, when the little female terminals start breaking and come loose from the edge of the printed board it is best to solder them directly to the circuit board, Maytag always had a lot of problems with these terminals as these dryers aged, this type of connection was a poor way of connecting wires to a circuit board, manufacturers would never make something this poorly today as they are now much better with electronic controls used on major appliances.

I'm a little late to the party but.....

Hey Mike, you have a great collection there, but WOW those 906's, what an AWESOME Christmas gift, CONGRATS!!!

Kevin

Thanks for the advice on the terminals. I do not know much about the wirlpool dryer other than it was a replacement for the dead original that was left from Evan's grandparents, he said that it was a speed queen :(.... Before my time here. I can get the model number up here shortly if ya want. Thank you all again for the great replies it has made me think twice about this gift and how much it means.

Also on a personal update, I am recovering from a cornea and lens replacement surgery, due to. Screwdriver meeting my left eye, and I am happy to announce that my vision is coming back and I have hopes that it will be back to normal soon.
