Michael that is the rinse selector dial. Automatic (h wash/warm rinse; warm wash/warm rinse; cold wash/cold rinse. the dial selected to cold yields a cold rinse for the temp buttons which would normally yield a warm rinse). The suds return buttons are 2 of the 4 button pods on the left-hyand side of the panel. The other two muttons of the pods are for regular or gentle action.

I knew the the top white wheel was for default cold on other models, but somehow thought it for Suds on Suds models.
So do all Sudsing Tags have the Suds buttons on the console, or do some models have Suds on the main dial and no buttons?
And doesn't the 900S and the 906S use the wheel, since there are no buttons for suds.
Can't get enough washer facts, no matter how hard I try. ;'D

You are very lucky to have someone who cares enough to do something like that. It's a very special thing. You know it probably didn't happen easily.

Maytag Sudsers
Every model I've seen has a suds save and suds bypass type of buttons. The one like you see here has the buttons next to the speed option buttons. Later models of the center dials I've seen had the sads save or not save buttons next to the water temperaure buttons. These buttons only control whether the wash water is drained for saving in the suds save tub or out the hose which would go down the drain. The function of returning the saved suds water to the machine is on the dial.

an up date.....
I was working on doing a bit more cleaning of both my commercial and the 906 washer... and I noticed that the agitators are in great shape and just out of curiosity I grabbed the top and gave it a firm pull straight up and off they came.... I was a bit grossed out with how dirty it was underneath them, not any more.

Youy're very lucky how easily both of those agitators came out.

Go to automatice.org and download the 1966 Maytag full-line brochure. Cost is only $3.33, and the scan quality is phenomenal. It's so good, in fact, that I was able to zoom in and read every button and dial setting on the 806 pair I'm getting.
The brochure has a full run-down on the 906s, including specifications. And the photos qualify as washer porn; they're impossibly beautiful and inspire raging lust, LOL.
The instruction card for your 906 is also available there.

So today I did some more work on the set and figured out that the dryer came from a home where it was set to 115 volts instead of 220 so I made a cord set and got to give it a test run and it worked just as new, the one problem that I did find was that there was one broken clip on a wire going to the "brain". Dose any one have some thoughts as to what I can use to repair this, I was thinking a female spade connector

Apparently, this feature is broken on my 906, lol. As luck would have it, I can't find a repair procedure in the service manual either ;>)
I still haven't been successful in wrestling that blasted agitator out yet. I'll have to launch it off with a puller instead of using a 40 pound sledge like I have done in the past. Powerfins are beginning to become rare

Congratulations on your new set. They are gorgeous indeed. I must admit I have never seen a 906 in person. They must be effortless to operate.
I must also add, I am intrigued by the Whirlpool dryer. It looks like it is mid 90s at the earliest. I thought the full width door models had stopped being produced a few years earlier. Also, that Maytag commercial washer is unique. I did not know they made a commercial line with a cycle dial. It makes sense, as this was used in a hospital where a washer of commercial lines would be needed, but without requiring coins to be operated.

Try a semi-rigid piece of aquarium tubing with some flexible on the end of it. Heat the semi-rigid piece of tubing a little way down from the end just a little bit to mold it to fit the curve of the underneath side of a power-fin and fill the tub with the hottest water and lots of detergent and STPP. Insert the curved piece of tube under the agitator until you get to the air bubble underneath and suck the air out so the water detergent solution will get up to the drive shaft. Then run the machine for awhile and then try and pull the agitator out.
It worked for me last year. If that doesn't work for me next time I'm gonna pull the lid off, lay a bunch of old blankets and padding down, turn the stupid thing upside down and spray some PB Blaster under her skirt. Let it sit over-night. See how she likes that.
