This is a 1963 Maytag A700 that I acquired (along with 3 other Maytags) last summer. I tested the other machines, but just put this one in the corner and let it sit. Monday, after a phone conversation with the previous owner, I was inspired to dig it out, hook it up and run a couple loads of laundry through it.

First: It's maiden wash (with me). A full load and full water level. It does need a couple things, but at least it does not leak! Yay!

This 2nd video and 2nd load, with some sheets @ the "medium" water level. I had a little more "fun" with this video too.

Enjoy!
Kevin

Very beautiful washer, Kevvin! I love the bakelite agitator with the chome cap. And I was amazed on how clear the rinse water was. Especially on the second video. Nice work with the videos and congratulations on the find. We need to keep more vintage beauties kickin.

Kevin very nice videos !

Some Maytags are a little slower in the agitate mode ...

I can always tell when they get cold they start slow then warms up to a nice arc.

Love the way the detergent gets more actavated when in the middle of the cycle.

I think Maytags pumps injects detergent back in the wash basket constantly that's my obsevation.

Makes good wash bath water.

That is my faverite agitator cap !

And the up shot in the second video is washing haven.

Nice.

Very good videos-like those older Maytags over the faster stroke newer ones.My Mom had one sort of like what was in the video at one time.It got sold when she moved into a Levittown house that had a GE set-the washer was a straight blade Filter Flow in 1968.I used to have a fast stroke Maytag-it was almost a Shredmore.Bought it in 1991.

Thanks everyone! I enjoyed shooting the video and editing them together (a couple hours each).

My Internet at home has been down since 4pm Friday. I'm sitting in a restaurant with free Wi-Fi at this moment and am using my iPod Touch at this moment!

~ Ben yes I hate hate HATE machines with lighted controls!!! Oh... wait, I have a few that light up (oh damn... oops). LOL. No... none of the (3) lights work yet. Burned and broken bulbs on this one and I have no idea why the main flourecent is inop. (haven't looked into it yet)

But thanks again!!

Great clips

I love Maytags too. And the Kenmores are beautiful as well. I'm finding an appetite for avocado green again.

Once upon a time I used to love going to appliance stores. Even on vacation, in a different city, I'd have to spend at least one afternoon looking at appliances. NOW appliances stores are boring. I prefer thrift stores and browsing the collections on this site keeps me happy. Thank you, ALL!

Wow! Did not know Maytag ever had a 12 minute wash...and surprised at the amount of suds! I have to admit, I love the clicking timer...sorta like the Wards/Norge and Whirlpool where you can see the dial turn in a big way.

Nicely done, I have a lot to learn from your filming prowess!

I enjoyed the vids. I went back to using my A606/806 Frankentag. After sitting several months, she ran beautifully, a little sluggish at first but after about a minute she was agitating normally.
