I have 3 yr. old Kitchenaid dishwasher that is wonderful. Do dishwashers have a filter screen on the incoming hotwater like washers and faucets? I can't find anything about this! The H2O pipe is old galvanized and I get lots of rust in my faucet filters. Thanks, guys!

Yes

You have to remove the valve to clean the screen, clean the screen in place DO NOT attempt to remove the screen to clean because if you distort it even slightly it will not seat properly and particles can get past the screen and cause the valve to stick open and cause a FLOOD. Because of the small volume of water a modern DW uses this screen may the last one to ever clog in your home, so I would not worry about it unless you have time on your hands and nothing better to do, or if the DW is clearly showing signs of not getting enough water to work properly.

Remove the valve?

Why would you need to remove the valve? You normally only need to remove the fill hose.

You know?
Looking back at on the old dishwasher connections, it used to be 1/2" connections but on the newer machines it 5/8 garden hose style where we can put a filter washer before the filter of the machine. that is another barrier before crud collects onto the main filter.
