I say quasi-vintage because that thing has right my age! :O And I don't feel vintage at all!
I was going to post this on the modern forum but having seen the limit of 20 years and older I readily switched to pink!

This week I'm going to collect my first vintage washing machine! A Candy Alisè washer-dryer, model 16WD, my guess is that it's one of the first bearing the name "Alisè", along model 21WD (that had 2 more options button).
Anyway, I found this machine just half a kilometre from my place and apparently in good working order as it's being sold only because the old lady in the flat has been transferred to a nursing home. This machine is the exact model I messed up with at the house of my "grandma", the older lady that lived downstairs and kept me as a little child :D (she is still using it! So apparently very long lived machines!) and when I saw it I phoned right away, for 40€ it was a price I couldn't resist! :)
I just have to arrange pick up with a friend as that thing sure is heavier than a modern washer being with a stainless steel tub and outer tub and dryer assembly! :)

Hi Gabriele.

Congratulations on deciding to take on the 16WD.

They are really nice machines, though take definitely take friends along as you are quite right when you say that its a lot heavier than a modern washer!
Its not the heaviest, but it certainly will take a lot of effort to move.

Keep us updated with how things go.

Below is mine and Robs 21WD, which we picked up last year.

Regards
Paul

hello Paul and thanks for the answer!
sure your machine looks pristine, I hope I can shine the 16wd up nicely!
Any sugestion at what to look when I gong to pick it up? will spin it and make it dry suffice as basic tests? does the dry orifice get a lot clogged in those models?

And how to forget the beatiful jingle?! :D

Man: Here it is, your new Candy Alisè, whith her no more hung clothes!
Clothes: guys, it's coming, let's celebrate, new Candy Alisè, no more hanging.

UPDATES!

If anybody cares here are a few updates regarding the machine:
I started shining up the body, not a trace of rust to be seen, just the odd spot where the screws hold the back plate, but even there it's nothing serious, a good polish and it all came away.

Washing: I did a complete 95°C cycle in there and the machine loads an incredibly huge level of water and makes a nice puf-puf-puf wash rhythm, compared to my modern machine it's a totally new sound, plus I love the low pitched whine of the induction motor while spinning! Woooooooooo compared to hiiiiiiiiiiiii of the crap Whirpool I have.

Sadly the drying function doesn't work anymore, luckly motor and heaters are fine but the fan was totally corroded and I'm ordering a replacement.
I'm changing the boot too as it has a crack where the hot air comes in and even if it doesn't leak while washing I don't want to risk anything in the future! Plus it only costs a few euros!

BTW: that foam was made from the left overs of old "Dash" detergent powder, you could tell the smell 1000 km apart when the machine started boiling...

Here is the corroded drying fan... hopefully replacements are readly available!
I must say that Candy has a very good spares policy: after 25 years they still have every piece I should need!

And, for now, last but not least, a picture of the cleaned up detergent drawer!
Gosh, it WAS FILTHY! I guess that in 25 years it wasn't ever been cleaned, plus the old lady put fabric softener both in the bleach and softener dispenser....

Awesome!

Keep up the good work, I'm watching for your updates! :))
