Rest in peace, my Maytag DWU9922AAE Intellisense Jetclean Dishwasher, victim of a product recall with guidelines that make absolutely no sense. As you well know, Maytag has the recall on units with the leaking rinse aid tank. Mine was leaking and it had damaged the harness. The fix is to send the customer a free rebuild kit consisting of a new inner door with tank, a new wiring harness, insulation and door gasket. Only one catch. They have a kit for every model affected EXCEPT the top of the line 9961/9962. For some reason (I've never gotten a straight answer thru my channels), they don't have a wiring harness and/or tank available. This means there is no legal, factory authorized fix for this unit and if it did catch fire (It can, I've seen some other models that have...), I'm on the hook. What they will do is offer me a >cheap< BOL dishwasher and have me pay to exchange it.
Now, the DWU9962 was the cadillac of the line and they wanted to offer me a Yugo. The 9962 gave me fantastic washing performance and I'll say it was one of the best dishwashers out there. (I know, I know. The Kitchenaid followers are muttering about how full of it I am. I can hear it...) In the fine tradition of AW, I saved, reworked and installed a MDB9150AAB. This thing is quiet and has a awesome drying cycle but still, I feel like I've lost a friend.
Question: Is it silly to have to get rid of a fine appliance and feel like I do?
