Hi guys,

Just got back from Darren's, thought I'd post a pic of our washday! First load was a load of teatowels, then a load of whites, and then a load of coloureds. Only used the New Wave today as that was the only one plumbed in, the Logic is having problems at the mo but maybe Darren will fill you in more!

Enjoy the photo anyway... was going to take more but dumbass here forgot to charge his camera battery!

Take care all,

Jon (still recovering from the likes of Saturday night!)

it wont work

i thought the instructions on the downy ball said the downy ball wont work in a frontloader, because during the spin cycle on a front loader the downy ball wont open up that is can only be used on a toploader???

In the UK and Europe, detergent manufacturers recommend dispensing liquid detergent in a "ball" placed on top of the load. That is probably Persil liquid from Unilever as PG Europe uses a dispenser like the Tide "rollerball". Which is just fine in an FL.

i think the advantage of using a dispenser ball is the fact that you know all the detergent is going straight into the wash, when they go in drawers, some may get lost in the sump in the pause between putting the detergent in the drawer and the fill beginning. Balls have been used for a long time in england as dispensers and altho some newer machiens have adapatable dispenser drawers for liquid, most old style english machines like the Logic and New Wave only have a powder dispenser and liquid was meant to be dispensed in a Persil Ball which Darren is using.

That is a very small 'load' - I assume you don't always wash such small amounts at a time otherwise laundry must take you days and your bills must be astronomical!!

Hi all,

Yeah - the ball is a Unilever liquid dispensing ball, and is designed to stop liquid detergent leaking down the sump before the fill starts. Also our liquids are pretty thick here, and can be quite difficult to rinse down the wash drawer (they are very gloopy, compared to the water-thin ones like US liquids, at least the ones I have). So yes, that is indeed Ariel Liquid inside that ball - smells absolutely gorgeous!

Hoovermatic - the other loads filled the drum, that was just a small teatowel load as we wanted to do a 95*C boilwash :-). And great it smelt too!

Take care all,

Jon

Interesting detergent ball, many were fascinated with the bag for the tablets last June - Mike sent some over for us to play with. I think it's a great idea, one of the things I don't care for on the Duet is the powder dispensing, it's all shot out in the first door-lock/safety check and it dribbles down the door instead of making onto the washload. Thanks for the pics - hope you had a great birthday!

Hey Guys.
Well me & jon Had a fun time! As the pic shows we used liquid in the newwave, which is a rareity. Because the idea of the detergent ball,is there is no detergent loss. But my machine was designed with this in mind by creating the front fill system, which is why powder works great in it. As all the water comes from the top lip & the clothes act as a filter so alas...there is no loss...But i do like liquid detergent as i find it rinses well & is great for pretreating.

hope everyones well.

Darren
