Hi everyone,

Wanted to share a recent completed project.

The Maytag A806 was bought from John Lefever (Combo52) and imported back to Australia in 2016. The Avocado panels were also sent from John a couple of years earlier.

I decided I'd like it converted to Australian 240 volts and finally had the time to do it.

So, I changed and added the following:

A 240 volt motor from a LAT9704 parts donor machine

A 240 volt timer motor from a A9400 parts donor machine

The motor start capacitor from the A9400

A 240 volt water valve assembly

The 50hz pulley common to Australian imported Maytags

And probably the best part was a Stainless Steel Bowl from an Australian Wilkins Servis automatic plus a Kelvinator fixed vane agitator.

And yes, I didn't feel I had the time and parts to install a new 240v fluoro light so I cheated somewhat I installed a LED strip light: if it's not to your liking so be it!

I'm very happy with the results: and yes; I know the lid is a bit squeaky as has been commented on my YouTube channel! Lol.

Cheers

Leon

It's great to have native voltage parts with no need for a transformer. That stainless basket is nice, too! No complaints about your LED modification; but I wonder what would be necessary to change over the original lamp to 240V? I would assume it had a preheat fixture and that simply changing the ballast would be all it takes. But I am just surmising and curious. It may be that in Australia the exact came lamp and therefore a ballast for it might be hard to find. [/COLOR]

The stainless steel tub, Maytag, a 806

Nice job Leon it’s great to have a totally Australian version of the Maytag A806, correct voltage, etc.

I’m still holding out hope that I may get one of those stainless steel tubs for the 806 at our museum that would be a real novelty here.

I actually think the power fin agitator would turn over clothing better. It would also be interesting to see yours with the load sensor agitator, my friend Bob in Cleveland has put both a Kenmore Roto swirl in his 806 and now he has a GE ramp been agitator from a GE Filter Flow washer and he likes that one the best in it. It’s amazing to see how the clothing moves around in that tall, narrow tub with a different agitator .

Hope to get to see that machine in person next year.

Different agitators

Hi John,

I'll certainly try some different agitators in the machine, I certainly have a few to choose from.

As to a stainless steel bowl, I do know I have one spare in storage, but you're going to have competition as I know Greg (gansky) is keen on one too!

Cheers
Leon
