This evening I took an array of leftovers, with some additional items from the cupboad and and made a soup. It's actually quite tasty.

Leftovers:
White rice from Chinese Restaurant
Leftover corn (off the cob)
Two chciken wings from KFC
Drippings from broiled meat. (Pork, I think)

Items from pantry:
Onion
Potato
Ragu tomato sauce (UGH I know, the ex bought it on sale!)
Celery leaves and stalks
Chicken broth

Boiled for 20 minutes, and voila! It was actually quite tasty!Don't look too bad neitha.

So who else has quickies or methods of frugality, or odd recipes that are surprisingly decent......

LoL... I had Hibatchi Chicken for dinner from a new Hibatchi Express.. Not quite as good as the little japaneese joint around the bend.

Then again most of you have a partner or other half who isn't picky about what he eats.. Mine refuses to eat things... Like dark meat chicken.. GRRRRR..

FYI: Toggles your soup sounds good

You can come and cook for me anytime... actually bring Terry with you and we could feed the town. I never follow a recipe and love to just throw meal together.

Be thankful you have food and don't have to cook it over

Let him go hungry for a week. I'll show YOU picky....

Hehehe.. I love him to much for that :-)... No i just make him eat cereal insted... Or else he goes and eats crap from Taco Hell---o... Ya know that chain retraunt with the lil mice..

UUUgghhh!!! That was our Wednesday night dinner when I was growing up. Would rather go without dinner than eat that these days.

I was given a quesadilla maker for Christmas and I love it: just put your favorite (or leftover) ingredients between 2 tortillas and cook until crispy - takes all of 10 minutes.

That south notion of lunch = dinner and dinner = suppor. I hear that some around here. Drives me nuits. sounds so rdneck & hick. I didn't notice it much as terms being used until I moved here.

No Rickey Lake for me, thank you !

~and breakfast=cold pizza.

YUM!

Remeber the days before microwaves in the early 80's?

I dont like eggs-- at all --but generally can eat (almost)anything for breakfast cold, right out of the "Frigidaire."

Thanks bois, I always wondered what supper was.

Oh, I know dinner vs. lunch vs. supper.

I was just sayin' .... I rarely have a proper sit-down, formal dinner/supper, whichever, at a specific, scheduled, normal time.

Sweep Steak(Brisket on a Budget)

Get a cheap, and I mean cheap, thick Chuck steak about 3 lbs, 2 inches thick. Get a package of Lipton Onion soup mix. Get a large peice of foil. Put the steak on the foil and sprinkle all the packet of the Lipton's Onion soup mix over it. Put some baby carrots on top, if you wish. Wrap the whole thing up in the foil. Put in a shallow roasting pan and cook in oven at 275 degrees for 2 hours. Fabulous! Leftovers make amazing sandwiches with onions and horseradish mayonaise on Italian bread.
Some White Trash Cooking is really good. The criteria is to use some pre packaged, non esoteric thing like katsup or marshmellow fluff that really makes the thing extra good as opposed to saffron or truffels from the south of France.

oooh more more more, we don't know too much aobut that here......I call what I do good old-fashoned ethnic peasant food.

Since I don't do aluminum foil (toxicity issues), I'll use my specked little porcelain "granny-roaster" YUM! This type beats the heck out of my stainless-steel one in terms of results!

"Sweep Steak"

Is Peg Bracken's name for it.

When I make it (not often,) I make it in the slow cooker. I don't bother with browning the chuck roast, but some do. I mix the reduced sodium! cream of mushroom soup and the onion soup powder together, and spread it on the roast. I only use the reduced sodium mushroom soup for this, or it's waaay too salty for me. About 8 hours on High, or 6.5 hours on Autoshift.

Can also be made in the same way in the pressure cooker. 35 minutes, natural release.

When I do it in the slow cooker, I throw some vegetables in it at the same time.

Lawrence/Maytagbear

2 cans of cream of mushroom soup
1 package Lipton onion soup mix
3.5 lbs. of fryer chicken pieces

Mix soups together. Put chicken in gerased 12 x 9 pan. Dollop soup mixture all over on top. Cover with foil. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 50 minutes. Remove fioil and bake for another 10-15 minutes. Voilla, instant deliscious gravey to go over rice or noodles.

I love shake and bake pork chops...but last night i realized that i was out of shake and bake...so, I seasoned the pork chops and rolled them in betty crocker potato buds and put them on a very lightly oiled cookie sheet...they were fantastic!!! Very very crispy...
