Hi, all. My uncle 2 weeks ago had to have his bile duct and 3/4th of his pancreas removed so now he is type 1 diabetic like me. Is it true that the pancreas will regrow what has been removed like the liver can? His operation was due to cancer. Is this true or just an urban legened. Your wisdom is appreciated.....Bill in Az.....

My experience as a veterinarian is that the pancreas will NOT regenerate. Don't know about humans, but I'm pretty sure the human pancreas doesn't either. Try looking for more info on WebMD.

If the pancreas did regenerated, diabetes probably wouldn't be an issue at all except in extreme cases.

The liver regenerates, and that is the only human organ that does so. I am sorry Bill.
