Luckily I have never run across this guy on youtube before tonight. I happened on it when I saw a review by him of the new Subaru Outback which was borderline awful, which led me to this review of the 89 Cadillac Brougham. You'll see what I mean within a minute of hearing him.. Ugggh.

He enunciates like a radio commentator. Not saying that's a good thing.

One of my favorite memories is driving a...geez...a '79 maybe...Cadillac from Minnesota to Sacramento, CA, to move my friend Cheryl. The car was hers. This was the summer of 1985. We arrived on the day of the Live Aid concert, so we spent the day unpacking the car and listening to the concert.

The car was a floating nightmare the whole trip because the suspension was completely overloaded. Not only was there hair-raising body roll, but we could feel it actually twisting left and right when the wind was strong. Couldn't see well driving overnight with the headlights pointing into the sky, LOL.

But we had an ounce of amazing weed, a bunch of my stellar mix tapes, and fifteen years of close friendship--both members of the class of '77-- so it was an epic road trip; one awesome Cadillac memory.

Kind of annoying, but I did enjoy seeing all the interesting features of the 1989 Cadillac. Wood trim everywhere, even the radio knobs are woodgrain! The red lights over the rear window you can see in the rearview mirror to verify your tailamps are working is just genius. They should still offer that on cars.

Well, I couldn't stand his Cadillac thing for even a couple of minutes.

Now, think about this: is that wedding band fake? Or is there someone who actually can stand him and *married* him?

:-P     ;-)

Anyway, since you mentioned the Subaru Outback, which is a car I like, I made an effort to watch the entire thing. Very disappointing, because he claims he's gonna tell us about the driving experience, but then doesn't. How does the AWD behave in the usual driving conditions? How about snow, ice, sand, mud, ramps etc? How about breaking, steering, avoidance maneuvers etc?

It feels like the dealership not only let him borrow the car, but paid him to not say anything important.

I have a friend who loves Doug's videos, and one time he showed me one of the videos where Doug, who seemed to have a love/hate relationship with a Land Rover or Range Rover or whatever talked about his experience of buying a pre-owned one thru a company that offered a bumper-to-bumper warranty -- the company spent way more than the value of the warranty because the car kept breaking all the time, one time it broke a block or two out of the shop. During the video, he showed why he loved the car, when it was working -- the SUV in front of him was shaking from side-to-side in an off-road situation, while Doug looked like he was driving his car on asphalt, drinking his beverage.

But yeah, he is very annoying, and I don't believe his "reviews" can be taken in any way, shape or form beyond "entertainment", we end up not knowing much about the cars -- or, at least it has been that way for the few videos of his that I've watched.

What initially drove me nuts was his mispronunciation of Brougham.. Since when did the letters ough sound like an A. He did another on the 79 Continental iirc and called the hibeam floor switch a floor tuner for the radio and again iirc said the fm/am was monaural. like wtf.

And if he was any kind of car expert he would have known that the fender turn signal/head light indicators as well as the rear brake light indicators in the rear window, and the trunk pull down, had been on Cadillacs for years prior to 1989. My '78 Eldorado had these features. I'm surprised he wasn't amazed by the power windows/locks.

I had never heard of this guy before.
Somehow, I got through this entire video. I think, mostly, because I was ignoring his criticisms and just enjoying seeing such a beautiful Cadillac.
These are still high on my dream car list. But, since I wouldn't want to ruin it by making it a daily driver in this crappy New England weather, it just wouldn't be practical for me to own one, even if I could find a nice example.
That being said, I do have a 1986 Pontiac that I've owned since it was three years old.
I just got it running and registered this past summer, for the first time in 19 years.
I drove it a grand total of three times since then, and it's back in the garage to hibernate again for the foreseeable future.
Sometimes, it seems I don't have the brains I was born with.
