A New Collection Begins

So I came across this the other day and although it's fairly "new" compared to what I had in my collection in California, wanted to get something to replace the awful Amana machine that came with the house I bought here a year ago. The machine is a little rough but seems to run fine. Model # LA88S (the "S" may be a "5" -- the tag is pretty worn). Any idea of the year of manufacture of this machine? Looks like 1990s?

It looks like an early to mid 80’s Maytag to me. I believe that Maytag went to white control panels in the early 90’s. I bought a Fabricmatic Maytag in ‘81 that was very similar to this machine. With your experience I’m sure you’ll have it running like new in no time.

Nice save, Todd! Looks like an A882. These were made in the mid to late 80's, and I believe were sold through catalog houses and home appliance centers vs. direct from a Maytag dealer. Based on the agitator in the machine it should still have a pitman arm transmission.

Dead center MOL Fabricmatic washer. Large capacity, 1 speed motor, infinite water level switch.

This would be the equivalent to an A512 direct from Maytag. A quick and easy upgrade to TOL (A712) using a control panel with wiring and 2 speed motor.

A new collection begins

Yay Todd, I knew you couldn’t stay away from collecting appliances, I hope this doesn’t mean that the honeymoon is over with your partner though and that you’re so bored that you’re collecting appliances, lol

You just have to rent a barge and bring a bunch of appliances over from the mainland, I know several people who are getting rid of massive collections as they’re aging or dying. There’s gonna be a lot of really good stuff available in the next few years in the continental US.
