Well, Santa has arrived early! In the form of Fred Nelson that is. Last week he sent me a Kirby Dual 80 that had been rebuilt at Kirby complete with hose and attachments.

Now my Dual 50 has been reunited with her long lost, younger sister and they can vacuum, buff, spray, demoth/crystallate, dust, inflate/deflate, polish, grind, sand, sharpen, renovate, make suds and wax together! I just need a Flo-Bee attachment and I could be a traveling road show.

I just know somewhere out there is an attachment to make mounds and mounds of fries and slaw for friends and family. And the fan blades still go through butter like a hot knife! Rices, dices, slices all in one quick flick of the switch!

Then just put on the rug nozzle and its back to vacuuming your wall to wall carpet. What a machine. Here are some pics.

Tools, Tools and More Tools!

Chcek out the following in fabulous Avacado green:

UTILITY BRUSH NOZZLE!
UTILITY AIR NOZZLE!
SPRAY & SUDS-O-GUN!
CURVED EXTENSION TUBE!
STRAIGHT EXTENSION TUBE!
PORTABLE HANDLE!
SURFACE NOZZLE WITH SWIVEL ATTACHMENT!
DUSTER BRUSH!
MASSAGE CUP!
CRYSTALATOR!
HOSE WITH COUPLER TUBES!
SHOULDER STRAP!

(Doesn't take much to get me excited, does it?)

Fred and I discuss problems with our cleaning ladies over martini's.........whoops!! I mean hot tea. Notice proper position of legs and well styled hair-dos. Mine is the Hadassah flip on the left, of course.

Wow what a nice gift of the Dual 80, I'm impressed. I've only seen one in real life and it's been sitting at a local vac repair shop awating the owner to pay his bill. If he doesn't I may get to snag it sans attachments of course. Have you tested the massage attachment yet?

WOW Charlie, what a beautiful machine...and in lovely Avocado no less!! Congratulations on an early Christmas present! Did this one come with its respective Handi-Butler attachment?

Also, what would the color of the Dual 50 be? Somehow it slipped from my memory...

Dual 50 and other questions........

Austin,

Scroll up a frame or two and you will see the Dual 50 in tan or some might call it light brown.

Pete, re: the massage cup.......not yet. I'm waiting for you to visit so we can massage each other. I could never reach all my nooks and crannies without some help.

This did not come with the handi-butler but it does have the waxer. I have an extra handi-butler for the small head Kirby's that I can use when needed.

Glad you all like it. Thanks Fred! I no longer have to be Avacado green with envy over yours and the rest of the members of the "Dual 80 Club."

Dual 50 bag topper

Austin,

Here is the top of the Dual 50 identifying it. On the Dual 80 it is on the base of the handle. The Dual 50 was the only Kirby to have the name illuminated in a cut out in the "floodlight hood". (Those are Kirby's words, not mine!)

Here is a close up of the illuminated Kirby logo. Because of this, it is one of the most desired Kirby's for vacuum collectors. Very unique. Hoover did it only on the Hoover model 825 made from 1935-1936 making it another highly collectable and an excellent vacuum.

Kirby's are beautiful and asthetically appealing but Hoovers ALWAYS outclean them in competition at the VCCC conventions.

beauty!

Those are beautiful Kirby's Charlie!

A Dual 50 was my first Kirby way back when I was 16, found it in the trash.

That is a beautiful machine, I saw it "in the box" at Freds a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to have to start combing the sales and be a thrift-whore again to find a sister for my Kirby. It's been kept company by Terry's Dual 80 but he's coming soon to take it home and mine will get lonely and probably start peeing on the floor.

I'll take my martini dry, no olive please. As soon as Terry gets here, we'll do bridge!

Pete

The color of the Dual 50 was officially known as Sirocco. How do you like that for a name? I believe that it actually started on the 562 and was carried on through the Sanitronic VII and then the Dual 50. The Dual 50 is one of my favorites with that glowing cap emblem!! I don't know about Charlie, but that is definitely tea I am drinking. That is my story and I am sticking too it!

Correction: Sirocco was a model of a Volkswagon. That is where it came first and thankfully ended.

Fred pass the pitcher and did you use Grey Goose this time? Tea? My a__ it was only tea!

Sirocco...that's it!! Interesting name for a "tan" color. ;-)

I love those lighted logo machines...was the Hoover 825 the model with the reddish-colored headlight lens as well? I saw one on eBay and I don't remember the lens being clear or yellow...

What a beautiful sweeper Jeff, I'm absolutely awestruck. The lighted logo gives a feeling of "elegance" to it. Didn't realize you had this one!

The only one

Thats the only model Hoover had like this, and I think its safe to blame Henry Dreyfuss for the lighted logo. He was hired by Hoover to restyle and design their vacuums, and that he did. His first mark on a cleaner was the art deco fan on the hood of the model 800, followed by the beautiful model 825.
I don't think Dreyfuss gets the credit he deserves for the earlier cleaners, he is best remembered for the 1936 model 150.

What a great vacuum. I have been trying for the last two years to find a Dual 80 or Sanitronic 50. But everything I come across has been at the hands of vac repairman that has taken off the original bags and replaced them with a paper bag style. Will keep the faith and keep looking. Congratulations Charlie.

Charlie that is one beautiful Dual 80!!! Congratulations! It looks like new.
I'll have Little Fred's and Joe's famous "lemonade" as we discuss the wonders of the Dual 80 please!! Greg we may just have to leave my Dual 80 there with your Kirby until we can find you a Dual 80, of course if it has an accident the Carpet Renovator will be there to take care of it. Jeff I had no idea that Hoover had a lighted logo I will look forward to seeing that sometime. Terry

Charlie - You Would Point Me Out With The Fat Legs!!

That was before I had a new doo (blonde - going back to my "natural color".) Notice Charlie's lovely aqua drapes with the ball fringe. I must hook you up with my decorator. Those drapes have to go!

the nifty Dual 50

Fred,beautiful machines.Curious though,why your Dual Sanitronic
50,has the circular Kirby logos all over the bag that were found on the 562 Sanitronic and the Sanitronic VII instead of the oval Kirby logos that were originally on it?

I have both the Dual 50 and Dual 80.got the 80 from the Filter Queen dealer before he went under. It came with the attachments and the shampooer.Got the 50 from an Applianceville member-trying to remember the name-got several vacs from him. They are stars in my collection. The 50 was "loaded" came with all of the attachments-including the handy butler. The Handy Butler even has a flexible shaft-turn your Kirby into a Dremel tool!I also have a second Dual 80 that doesn't have the tools-got it from a vac dealer here that went out of business. She got some good machines.Got a couple Rainbows from her.I have a DVC outer bag that accepts "F&G" bags-got it with another Kirby classic I got as a trade in for a TriStar. The original Kirby bag is a better performer. If you want to use a disposable bag system with a small nozzle Kirby-it looks funny-the "Classic" bag that uses paper inserrts will fit.And the new "G" bags will fit in it.

Good Eye!

David,

You are correct!! The bag on the Dual 50 is from the earlier Sanitronic VII as I have not been able to locate a correct original Dual 50 bag-----kind of like I am looking for an original Dual 80 bag. I didn't think anyone would notice but of course on this site, once again I'm outed!!

So, do you have an original Dual 50 bag for me or are you just going to point out my faux pas?

Hair Color

Fred Darling,

If you are a "blonde", then I'm a redhead. And, I just had those drapes made into a beautiful cocktail dress that I'm wearing to Twelve Oaks for a party on Saturday. "I saw it in the window and just couldn't resist!" I'm going with both the Tarleton twins since I can't decide which one is cuter.

After all, twosies beat onsies but threesies are best!

Helen my dear, be sure and get some pictures of you in your new outfit as well as the Tarleton twins!!
