A new look for the Ogden Laundry....

Encouraged by the DE306 repair and pretty much snow-bound after a surprise snowfall of nearly 14 inches (yes, NOT centimetres!) I figured this past Sunday was a good day to spend playing with the arrangement of the laundry room in Ogden. OK, that and the fact that hubby kept whining about the lack of open floor space...
Here's how the laundry room looked circa 2009:

I had lots of fun playing what hubby called 'musical bloody appliances'....
That appliance dolly was a worthwhile investment, indeed!

The first 'Tag team is the A206 paired up with the newly spiffed-up DE306. These have now inherited the title of daily drivers.

Second in command is the 'Tag team A701 washer with the DE700 dryer.

Of course, the Frigidaire still is proudly displayed. I still need to hook up the water supply, though. And as I reminded hubby, this one is seeking its 'mate' in a Deluxe 63 dryer! He makes the cutest growling noises... LOL

Mismatched for now - the Westy L5 Laundromat is paired with the CD-6 dryer. My goal is to get the CLB-6 Laundromat up and running again this year (may be SLIGHTLY ambitious) and one day, I would like to get a D3 dryer to match the L5 washer. Hubby was spewing expletives at that one...

The 58 GE Clothes Conditioner dryer, which is pledged to a fellow collector in MD and the still DOA Inglis washer. Getting a new motor for that machine is another of my lofty goals for 2011...

Well, until I can get the timer fixed or replaced... The CLB-6 Laundromat.
The open space is reserved for the Inglis Sterling dryer, still also DOA, awaiting a motor transplant... I have a plan for that too, hopefully!
Of course, I pointed out to hubby that we have PLENTY of room for a Kenmore... I still have the bump on the head...

Eugene, the 701 is a 'late' model - a 1965 and the DE700 is a 1963. I guess the design was in production for quite a while!

Bob - you read my mind but boy, I couldn't put ANYTHING hubby said in regards to that matter in this (or any public) forum! LOL I didn't think he knew that many curse words...

Well, that's what hubby gets for whining about lack of open floor space.  You created it and now it needs to be popuolated in some manner.  It's a major resource that shouldn't be wasted.  I'd say that open floor space is destined to be all washed up and dried to boot!

Paul, what's sort of falling down beside the exiled Laundromat? Did he shoot down ducks in his rage or did the toxic fumes from the eruption destroy the wall paper paste?

What do you notice about the difference in agitation performance between the 206 and the 701? Have you tried putting the Power Fin in the 701? I have been told I foster unnatural practices.

I need to vent...

Seriously, I have been wondering what to do about venting multiple dryers. The DE306 is a 'dryer vent through a board that I put in the window' solution; the DE700 is vented into a water trap (which is far from a perfect solution, but it does add humidity to the house in winter). The Westy doesn't have a vent currently but I would like to add one. The Inglis will dry again someday (hopefully sooner than later) and it will need to be vented too... The house is odd in that in summer, the humidity in the house is far too high while in winter it's too low. We go from 75 or 80% humidity mid-summer to 15% or less in winter. So, using a dryer in the summer is not something I do often...

I am going to guess that the ideal solution is to have each machine vented with its own direct outlet. But because of the style of foundation this is not going to be easy. The former owners of the house never had a dryer vent from the moment they built the house to the time we bought it.

I have some ideas though... When we tore down the kitchen in 2009, there had been a Jenn-Air grill range that vented through the basement into the 'cold room', which is actually the basement underneath a wing added to the house in the 80s. The foundation height is adequate for a vent so they ran the conduit from the 'laundry' section of the basement into the cold room, then to the vent. The original ducts got torn out (cooking goo, eeech!) but the vent through the wall is still there. Could I get away with having a duct running through the basement with all 4 dryers connected to it? I have seen something similar in a local laundry in Montreal.
Another idea is to regroup the dryers on the back wall (where the out-of-commission Inglis and Westy are now placed, still use the cold room vent but with a shorter run of ductwork.
Last idea (and I think it would solve a lot of problems but hubby is really against it) is to convert the 'cold room' into a new laundry room! I would need to do some work - there is no plumbing (that would take some engineering...) and very minimal heat. But I am going to have to have plumbing and electrical work done anyway... Added bonus, the 'cold room' has a solid cement floor. The floor in the current laudry is plywood over who knows what and I strongly suspect that there is water damage and rot in the supports for the floor boards...

What to do???

Have you tought about venting all dryer through a celling fan vent the kind we see in bathrooms sometime that would mean aving a long duct that connects to each dryers but that would be link to the main celling fan vent that would become a dryer vent thats just a tought?

adding "T"'s to a vent for dryers can be done.....but.....you have to have backflo valves so the air does not return into another dryer not running, and these clog and stick open very easily, I had to clean mine every month to work properly, now they all have their own vent.....

I do like the powervent idea, to pipe several into one line and the added assisitance from the blower might just work for such a situation.....GOOD ANSWER!

I only seen this in one apartment complex, they created a slot/vent across the entire complex underneath, and on one side was a blower like from a heater, blowing air across and out the other side continuously....all dryer and vents from stove hoods and bathroom vents were piped into this.....kinda unique!
