After 13 hours on the road, 800 miles and 42 gallons of gas, I present to you the 1952 Westinghouse dryer!

Much thanks to Isreal (Agitatorboogie) for finding this on Craigs List and posting it here, THANK YOU!

This belonged to a very nice woman in South San Francisco.   Her father used to work for Westinghouse back in the day and mother used it only on days she did laundry and it was raining.   She said it hasn't been used in probably in 25 or 30 years.

<span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: medium;">After I picked up the dryer, I later discovered Heidi had sent me a very nice e-mail saying:</span>

<span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: medium;">"Hello Kevin,  </span><span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: medium;"> </span><span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: medium;">Thank you for buying my dear old clothes dryer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">   </span></span><span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: medium;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I am so glad that it is in a good home and not in a scrap metal heap.  </span><span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: medium;">Sincerely, </span><span style="font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; font-size: 21px;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Heidi"</span></span>

Timer knob.   Wow this dryer must dry REALLY FAST because the timer only goes up to 3 minutes!

ha... ha... ha.......

Yes I know, I'm sure it's 3 hours as this is a 110V dryer!

Now I would like to formally introduce "Mr & Mrs Westinghouse"

The are SO happy to be together!

(Hmmm... what do you throw instead of rice... little detergent pods?   LOL)

Obviously Miss dryer has been out is the sun more then Mr washer because she has a slight tan.

(ducks & runs?  Hey wait, this is MY thread!   LOL)

Who is Miss Dryer going to push out to keep her place in Kevin's overly well stocked shrine? LOL? Very nice dryer. When does Miss Dryer get to strut her stuff?

The new couple was SO excited to be together they just couldn't wait and have already produced children!

So............l that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Our dryer was a year or two newer, and we had the washers either side of that (double door/chevron door).

Ah yes, the popup filter! And idler/friction drive. Really takes me back. Pull the kickpanel off and there's a big yellow wheel with three small holes riding on the motor pulley. Isn't there!

Glad she made it safely to her new home!  Did you send pictures of the happy couple to Heidi?  She would be so pleased!

A member I spoke with this evening suggested that the idler's flat spot might correct itself with use.  I noticed that once we got back to my place and checked under her skirt, the wheel had come to rest on the flat spot.  I don't know if it has a tendency to do that, or if it shifted there from traveling on the back of the truck as we climbed up and down the steep hills south of the Castro district as a result of Miss Maggie's misguided navigational instructions.

Very Interesting,  Kevin and thank you!  I see the drum is perforated around the perimeter.  I wonder what year did they evolve into the drum with the perforations at the back of the drum.  You are right, and the Lady told you the truth, about the ltd amount of use,  the drum is less banged up than our modern Wp.  alr

Early 1950s Westinghouse Dryers

Yay Kevin Good Save, we have a 240 volt version of this dryer at the Museum that has an interesting thermostatic auto dry system. Ours will not tumble properly and I have not looked into why, maybe your getting this dryer will inspire me to fix it. Is your dryer convertible to 240 volts or strictly designed for 120 volt operation?, at least on 120 you can run it without blacking your whole neighborhood, LOL.

Dontcha just love babies?

The wedding is a success! And offspring already. That's a SHORT gestational period. LOL
