A Nice Hot Towel Wash in the '61 GE

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

The earlier perforated tub GE fill flume is aimed towards the agitator instead of the later version from the 70s-90s that is aimed towards the side of the tub...

Robert,

You seriously have to make a video of this machine! I just love it.

So is the water level on the highest setting during this wash? Curious if it fills up to the filter pan or just to the curve of the washtub.

Anyways, it's an awesome machine and so glad you found it!

2 o'clock position

Well possums, it all has to do with the mini wash and washing my delicates. You know, spraying from the 12 o'clock position just couldn't reach all the nooks and crannies of my unmentionables so GE took my advice and moved it to the 2 o'clock position. They're still paying me royalties for my old fashioned idea!

Why GE moved the Filter-Flo flume to the 2:00 position start

Oh, oh! oh! I know! I know!, wait a minute(I'm on schpilkes!)

Because (thanks to the WA655V you sent me), the filter flo supply hose on the newer V-12 models comes through the outer tub at the 2:00 position anyway, so the engineers must have said, why waste all that extra rubber making it come out at 12:00 just to make it look like the older machines?

That machine is like butter!

If you wanted to make a video of this machine in action with you spinning the Rotary Fabric Dial, no one would complain.

Filter-Flo

Great find Robert!! And it could not have found a better home.

That is a beautiful GE! I love the fill flume angled towards the agitator (as nature intended a fill to be). I bet it makes for a splashy spray rinse. Thanks for the photos.

That is a beautiful GE. Congratulations Robert! I kind of have a soft spot for the GE's since mom had one in the 80's.

I'm curious guys, while we're on the discussion of those rattling rollermatics (and since I have one of them) Why are they noisy? Seems to me they should be smooth...

Casting My Vote for that GE Video

Even the sounds of your spinning those dials are classic. Also, describe your favorite detergent/additives used in this classic machine. Looking forward to that next GE video. My GE Appliances folder has plenty of room.--Laundry Shark

No guts, no glory

Does anyone have a picture of the matching dryer? Did it also have a "Rotary Fabric Dial"?

I'm kicking myself, because some years ago a neighbor of mine I think had one of these in her garage(along with a bunch of other vintage beauties)in turquoise. Even though I recognized it as a 1961 GE TOL dryer, I didn't pursue it. Didn't have either the imagination of the pluck to ask to buy it. And, of course, it must have gone to the dump.

We've all done it Ken.

A couple of years ago, my neighbor died and his son re-did the house and he had an old GE with the lighted control box. Since the house had no electricity while he was redoing it, he put the washer in the back yard. It sat there for months. I wanted to ask him about buying it but didn't. Then he had hauled it out to the street with a bunch of other crap for the garbage to pick up. I wanted to take it but I was afraid there would be a mouse or something in it from being outside! (I know, but I'm petrified of mice and all that crap!) But now I could just kick myself. It was in great shape.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda. :)

Did you ever tell us why the flume was moved?? :)

I have no idea, that's why Linda asked you to discuss it, LOL :-) but I think Ken probably has the right idea.
